1st attempt at hatching - April 1 hatch date...7 of 8 hatched. PIC Heavy w/ Hatching Videos!

You might want to candle them all so you know if there are any that are clears. We had 5 clears out of 14 that we started. Good luck! We will be watching.

I HAVE VEINS IN THE EGGS

I can't express how excited I am. I restrained myself and candled only two eggs of the 15 in the incubator but both had veins. Its only Day 6 and I don't want to handle them to much. I read its not good.

Last night at 8pm concluded day 18 of the incubation since they were started on Sunday, March 11 at 8pm. I put them in lockdown and raised the humidity to 67%°. This morning at 6:30am we noticed one of the three bantam eggs has pipped! The temp is steady at 99.7°. We can see movement in two other eggs. OK, now it's nervous time....I hope the rest of the hatching goes well!........stay tuned for more updates as they happen!....I've got to go read about pipping, zipping and hatching one more time......

I spent almost the whole afternoon reading about hatching, pipping, and zipping (and I'm at work

) They say day 10 is the best time to candle and I was 4 days early on those 2 I looked at. The veins I saw were only little red things, nothing like Hondo's picture...but still, VEINS!

Hondo:

What is that green thing your pipped egg is sitting in. It looks like a cupcake paper. Do you leave them in this to hatch or is that only for taking the picture?

The photo of my egg during candling was on day 14. Yes it is a cupcake paper that I only put in to help the egg resist rolling. It did make for a good color balance on the photo however. I candled at day 4,7,10,14 and 18. It was at day 4 I saw the clears compared to the others (veins and a darker spot that is the eye developing) and on day 18 I saw one that was not shaded like the other 8. The clears are out but the one from day 18 Is still in there just in case...

I used this thread from silkiechicken as my bible through incubation. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation

Thanks so much Hondo for that link. It was FASCINATING and its now bookmarked for further reference. I can see why you used this as your "bible". Those are really great pictures. I watched the videos too.

Thanks again!

2nd bantam egg just pipped. Looks like the bantams want out. Can't blame them.

Hi there, My eggs are due on April first as well
celebrate.gif
! I began with 25 eggs but am sadly down to 6. I had 2 clears after day 5 and then they seemed to drop like flies, by twos until I got to 6. Thankfully I have seen all six moving around from time to time, but mine are not as eager as yours are. I have no pips yet
th.gif
but hopefully soon! Good luck on your eager hatches.

Bantam egg #3 also pipping. Lots of chirping. End of Day 19.
