That is sweet that you kept him and have gotten him some girls. Nice job but I would like to point out one major thing....it is not predator proof. Chicken wire is useless for keeping predators out, it keeps chickens in and that is about all it does and it deteriorates over time and rusts and falls apart. Save yourself later heartache and invest now in some hardwire cloth to replace or cover that chicken wire...no larger than 1/2" opens and bring it all the way down and out about 2' on the ground all the way around and bury it to stop digging predators.

Some predators will chew right through it, other rip into it and lovely racoons reach through and pull the bird's head off or pull the bird through it whole or in pieces. It is not a pretty sight. I believe in the theory of do it right the first time, save yourself the heartache and extra expense later and enjoy them after it is done.

Nice work!! Really sweet of you to keep that rooster, what is his name? I do agree that you should cover the chicken wire with something sturdier, hardware cloth or welded wire will keep all predators at bay
