this color chart will give you the answer to your question

Blue X Blue = Blues, Blacks and Splashes
Blue X SBlue X BBlue X Blue = Blues, Blacks and Splashes
Blue X Splash = Blues and Splashes
Blue X Black = Blues and Blacks
Black X Splash = Blues
Splash X Splash = Splash

yes i am familiar with blue genetics. what i am trying to understand is how are you getting blue australorps and are they pure or are you adding other blood in. right now i have 3 strains of black australorp and i have no problem with culling to get what i want.

i would love to get some hatching eggs from you!

my original black austra rooster parished and i only have his son, i could use some new blood and you have 3 strains!
would you be interested in swapping some eggs?

So happy for you chet...cant wait to get some hatching eggs this spring..Im still really focused on the blacks right now, and want your in the foundation flock for sure, once I close it off I wont be adding any from the outside,

Hope you post some of the pics for these people to see how fantastic your birds are..Nice job all the way around..They will LOVE your blues.

, so I have a pretty good line up and a good freind and APA judge pastor roland romig is bringing me home some australorps from california, By the way , pastor romig is judging a show in Arizona pretty soon, cant remeber which show he said, maybe its close by and you can pop in and say hi and you know me...He just lives downtown sayre Pa., then he and faulkners are off to nationals, we are trying to get some good birds this year shooting for next years or poss following year depending on how things go to head to nationals with the australorps, Asking faulkners to show for me since my work schedule is so crazy...

Heres some pics for you..

This is some of the new stock I bought .these are bob whitneys .pullets at twin tier poultry show, forgive my poor photagraphy, camera has a delay I take a nice pic and by the time it clicks the bird has moved.

This older bird is orp aussie cross..I think they were a fad called a giabnt australorp but she has such a nice frame and neck feathers I want to incorporate her into the breeding program and see what she produces...

This is not a breeding australorp, shes just one Ive kept around because she is mother of the year, I never have to worry about temp spikes in the bator or much of anything , she can handle a large brood and will drop everything to sit eggs if she thinks they are fertile...so shes handy, here shes hatched a few delewares for a freind of mine, they are now at thier new home..

I have shown this little hen all over the place, she has a blue ribbon for every show...shes just easy to work with and laid an egg every day of the fair and laid an egg at the APA show..shes true egg laying machine that the australorps is so shes important to me in a foundation breeding program for this breed.. Australorps are renouned for record egg laying, and someone with deep pockets imported all of the record egg layers to USA, duing the 30s and their genetics show up here and there with hens laying more eggs per year than average..to me that is a hallmark of the breed and should also be part of the program.

i started my flock with murry mcmurry australorps back in the early 90's. i then went out a found several prominant breeders and bought breeding stock from them. after 2 years of mixing and matching, on the third year i was winning best of breed, best of variety, grand champion at the fair and reserve grand champion large fowl at the state show in arizona where i competed against 1600 birds.

so really theres nothing wrong with using hatchery birds that follow the SOP.
culling is key if you are serious about the quality of your flock. i know many of you dont like the cull and that is your option, but breeding substandard birds to create your flock will only ruin any chance of quality birds.

You know what Chet, I just bought this book "the australorp" by ray connor from australia, he was something like 18 time australian champion which is unheard of, and he did it with the impossiblely small flock and so many said it couldnt be done, he did it...he never owned over 50 birds at any one time and was showing against people who had thousands to choose from he was just a master breeder with an eye for what will work.... had a freind who used to tell him...give me your third worst and I will come back and beat you in three years...he kept his promise and beat him with his own third worst again this guy was also a master breeder who could bring the best out of the worst..and in impossible time like three years..you hear people say all of the time dont buy from the hatcheires, but when it comes to australorps the genes of those first imports that the australians are out there in those flocks and on occasion you see a hen that will lay well over 300 eggs a year...those hens are precious to the breed, also I just saw a different breed of chicken owned by a freind, the judges were kind of ga ga over this bird and 2 of them gathered to discuss this bird , she was one of those freak really good birds that came out of murray mcmurrays..she was better than all of the breeders birds..they sure didnt know she was a hatchery bird, but the owner told me.. To me a hen that puts out over 300 eggs should be a very important part of the program..the australians on thier threads were complaining theat the show breeders were ruining the ASCIs and they could not find a closed flock of the big time egg layers anywhere in australia..we could get together those genes cause we imported them, all of those record egg layers were imported here long time ago, but no one is making it any importance..

very true the blue australorps have been already established a few years back by the australians. they already have a stadard and have large australorp shows. check out the australian club site, very nice pics of all the varieties there.

how old are your birds? i look forward to seeing them.

I have 4 month olds, and 3 month olds.

You got some nice ( pullets?) or hens there! here in canada we have show stock of most breeds, but you have to go serching the woods for them. One breeder i am getting birds from raises Black Australorps and wins, at most shows he goes to. But does not have a phone, he uses his brothers phone number as a contact...

Youve got them Chet. When I get them out in the breeding pen, I will give you a heads up.. once I get the bator full, I will let you know to be ready..these birds are the east coast champions..

Pastor romig said it was a pretty big show he was judging in AZ..So if you can get to it , and hope you do, stop by and say Lynne O said hi from waverly, he'll crap.... ...hes got a line of top australorps out there, Im pretty sure he said calif.. so we might be rolling in the australorps pretty soon..Im trying to get the foundation down and then closing it off , pastor romig is going to come up and be a fersh eye on the whole thing in case I overlook anything and just be a fesh eye to the thing....

Thanks call ducks, We would love to see pics of your freinds birds in canada..!!! and your call ducks too..I know they are harder and harder to find and a bunch of us are trying to do it right , we'll have our trials and errors but we'll also have a great time sorting it all out..
