1st post, 1st chicks..critique me please

I finally got some granite girt.. but the pieces of it seem really big and sharp.. the consenus seems to be that they really don't need it anyway if i keep them on starter so Ill just hold off on it for a bit. They seem really happy and i don't want to mess with whats working. Is there a sure way to tell what age they are? I forgot to ask them at the store. They are fuzzy all over but they have real feathers growing on their wing tips.

There are 3 sizes of grit for chickens. #1 is chick size, #2 is a little bigger, and #3 for adults.
