Interesting, how does dry dirt increase humidity?Forgot to mention incubators use water to increase humidity and broody hens use dust baths to increase humidity always keep sand or dirt nearby for her to bathe on
Ha ha no. That's what you would think though, but that's the mom/hen who layed the egg. Yesterday a chick hatched out that I really really wish I knew the parents of so I could recreate it. Its like dark chocolate mixed with red and greenish legs, single comb. And it is the prettiest chick I've ever seen! I would post a pic of it but my camera would turn it black. You named them before they hatched?![]()
I don't know, but I know it works because when I pick my broodys up after they have taken one the feel warmish and almost a little moist. And they take one like at least once every day but usually twice or more.Interesting, how does dry dirt increase humidity?
Mine eats out of my hand to sometimes. I give them fermented food once a day. She'll eat that out of my hand in her nest. This is year 2 for me with chickens. In April I had 10 month old BO go broody. We have a pretty large flock, 20, and rooster. My husband and thought why not let her do her thing. We had while in coop building designed for a broody section within the coop that went to it's own run within the run. She has her own dirt bath too. Momma could see everyone, but not be bothered by the others, or have others take her nest while she was bathing. She sat 6 eggs and 4 hatched. 2 cockerels and 2 pullets. Momma had them eating out of my hand by day three. These chicks have been the best yet.
Now chicks are 12 weeks and momma is broody again. I tried to break her, but she was stubborn. The hubs caved and got hatching eggs. She's on a dozen cream legbars eggs and all show development like the candling pictures suggest should be with 7 days to go. I bring her extra treats and make sure water and feed are in reach and clean. Even while broody she'll still eat out of my hand.
I live in the desert. We have plenty of dust and dry dirt in our coop.Ha ha no. That's what you would think though, but that's the mom/hen who layed the egg.
