2-3 week old chick pooing blood...

Hi,
I recently purchased 3 2-3 week old chicks on the 24th Dec. I noticed yesterday that one chick had done a poo with a little bit of blood. Looked on a chart and it said it was normal. Today I have noticed a more significant amount of bright red blood with barely any poo. All the chicks are eating, drinking and running around fine. Is this a cause for concern? They're eating ground starter pellets. They have also eaten some flies and worms outside. I don't know what to do. I don't want them to die. Any help is greatly appreciated.

That is likely coccidiosis.
They need Corid/Amprolium right away. It is a thiamine blocker that prevents the continuing life cycle of the protozoa coccidia.
Also, keeping the bedding bone dry helps. It won't help now that they have too much in their intestines but will help in the future.
They can get it from picking in the soil.

Thanks for your replies. They aren't lethargic at all. Strange. Is it possible that they've eaten something and it's ripped their intestine? I've called the vets and waiting for a call back. I live a long way from town so I want to wait until I know the vets have something there. I've grown really attached to them and I really don't want them to die. Anything I can give them in the meantime?

I think it's likely coccidosis, and, from my understanding, treating it is not harmful. I do think you need to act right away, as it can taken them down quickly.

On closer inspection I think I've found the culprit. HE/she's name is Myrtle. Other then a bit of blood I can't see anything wrong with it. Where I got them from the place was pretty worn down and quite dirty.

UPDATE:
I just spoke to the vets and they stated that if it is bleeding every time it goes to the toilet then we should treat with antibiotics and cocci treatment. However, since this has only happened twice she suggested that it was going to do more harm then good pumping the little chick with meds. She told me to separate the chick from the others and watch. If it starts slowing down and becoming lethargic with an unwillingness to eat and drink then we will treat straight away. Thought this might be helpful advice for anyone else having the same issue. I will update if anything changes.

Have you been giving them medicated starter feed i had my 5week old chick die over night an two others were infected but i corrected it beforw it got worst. I mixed cinnamon an water an apple cider vinager had to help one chick drink it. Than got medicated feed if i hadnt done the first steps with home remidies i woyld of lots all three. Good luck !

I would go ahead and treat, not trying to scare you but by the time they're lethargic it's often too late.

I have starter chick feed from my local livestock feed store.... Not sure if it's medicated though. I don't have any vinegar at home but I have cinnamon. Should I try that? What measurement was the cinnamon to water?
