2-3 week old chick pooing blood...

And green tea! I almost for got if you have any make a cup an water it down i have small chick feeders so i just filled it half tea an water. I wish i had a pic of my chicks poo thw night before one dead. But the cause of death was definitely. Coccidiosis it was runny wet bloody poop with a little white in it. But please try what ive suggested an research. This hqppened to me last week and it was upsetting but my other two are as happy an health as can be an pooped normal after yhe first 48hrs of remidies an thw medicates feed.
Wow! Thanks, I will add that to their feed!

Sorry double post, but she doesn't prevent it. It still happens with broody raised chicks. The medicated feed just helps build tolerance to the protozoa that lives in the soil.
Another question,
if my chicks were with their mother, how does she stop anything like this happening with them? Why do human-raised chicks need medicated chick starter pellets?

It should say it right on the bag mine does all over. Always ask. I had to call all over to find a small bag of it. But call or ask walmart sells it if your near theyre. And i cant give a correct answer on the difference bewteen hen raised than human other than the mother shows them what to do an eat. Plus a lot of chicken owners use acv in water for there flock for many. Reasons and it helps protect the gutt from this parasite..

We know, we're just trying to help especially the ones of us that have delt with it and know how quickly things can go downhill. It won't do any harm at all to treat the babies, if anything it'll give you peace of mind. I really hope that isn't your issue, but better safe than sorry right? We just worry lol! :)
Thank you. I am a little bit stressed but I am getting some treatment tomorrow to be safe rather than sorry. I live far out of town and have many animals that need full time care as I am a wildlife carer so it is difficult for me to just hop in the car and get medication especially when I see that my chick doesn't look unwell at all. This means that I have a lot of trust in what my vet tells me. I really do appreciate the advice and definitely take it on board.

Your welcome i hope this helps! These are things i had on hand until i got the feed. You can get them at most local stores an when you go to get the right feed call before hand an make sure they have it. An its just one chick though right? I took mine out an put them into a different brooder box so it was nice an clean an easy to look at the poop. Since both were infected i just kept them together.

I live in Australia so no Walmart here haha. Also based on my experiences with cocci in kangaroos which I have now learnt is very similar, makes me trust my judgement even more. I will be purchasing some ACV tomorrow too. Sounds like it's really beneficial.

Corrid is the best thing for coccidosis imo. Easy peasy add it to the water and they are all treated. Also... you said worm and somethn from the yard... do they have chick grit available at all times if you are givin anything other than feed? If not you NEED to. Yes the acv will help some... but if your chicks are overloaded at the moment corrid in their water will be way more beneficial right now. After the treatment then do the acv if you want. But chicks can go downhill super quick from cocci and you need somethin that works quickly for now it sounds like. Esp if you are seein bloody poop.

Yeah, I've separated the chick from the others and it's poo looks absolutely normal. It's making my brain hurt haha.

Does chick starter contain grit? Where do I get grit from? Will I be able to access Corrid in Australia?
