2 Americauna chicks?

You are correct. Ameraucanas were admitted to the Standard in 1983, I believe. And maintaining breed standards IS the point.

Well said!!

x2! Possible to see a blue egg pic please?

Thank you all for being so willing to share your knowledge without the negative bickering crap (that I was terrified of). Discussion and disagreement can be one of the most positive learning environments in the world!
The info. and perspectives are providing a really great introduction to the chicken world for this grateful newbie!

I will take a pic tomorrow of Berts aunts eggs. Berts mommy is mothering another generation and isn't laying right now. Bert should start laying in a month or so. Berts sister is named Meep Meep. Every time I see her I swear she is going to bust out with that noise. Not so far though.

Hatchery Easter Eggers have a wide range of what they look like both as chicks and adults (I assume that since you are spelling Ameraucana with an "I" that you got them from a hatchery or feed store - in which case they are Easter Eggers).  The only variety of Ameraucana that have stripes as chicks are silvers, and they are super hard to come by.  The really cool thing about EEs is that you never know what they are going to look like.  /img/smilies/smile.png  And you never know for sure what color egg they are going to lay, could be blue, green, brown, or even pink!!  /img/smilies/big_smile.png

I actually got a silver and he's a beauty, haven't got a picture of him. He's a bit of a jerk though, lol!! I actually didn't know much about the ameraucanas but got lucky and got 5 pure chicks from a local hatchery at my farm store. Everybody says "buyer beware" they're mostly likely EE's, but all of them are breed standard colors and size, & etc. going back next time and getting a whole bunch more! Hopefully some silvers!! :)

What hatchery is selling pure Ameraucanas? I've only heard of Meyer, and I've not heard of any hatcheries selling silvers. Pics of your birds?

x2 No hatchery is selling silver Ameraucanas-that is a fairly rare Ameraucana color even from a breeder. There are EE chicks that have similar appearance at first but if you compare, you'll find they are not Silvers. IF there was hatchery selling any true Ameraucanas, we'd all love to know about it! Meyer finally has the blue color, which is a huge leap forward, though not sure of their quality.

I honestly don't know the name but it was a local farm hatchery, I had asked the lady when I was buying and she said I don't know we get them from various hatcheries sometime a different one everytime and we only know what they the chicks are when they're delivered and just label them with what the hatchery says they are. I got them from the orschlens store in coffeyville kansas. So your guess is as good as mine? I will post a pic of him soon when I'm not working.

I will say that he was the only silver they sold so I don't know if I just got lucky and he was accidentally in the mix, but he is a beautiful roo.

I don't know if you can see him but I think he's in my avatar picture on the far right, I can't remember if he's in that one but I think that's him.

The photo is too small to see. If they came from a farm store, via a hatchery, what you think is a silver Ameraucana is an EE, I'd be about 99.99 % sure of that.
