I had 2 hens sitting on 10 eggs a peice today is day 12 for both and I took all out to candle all had developed and then died early on and began to rott all were dead. Their nests were quite damp and I noticed where water had began to leak into their nests is this what could have caused this? I have moved them into a sure proof water free nests and they are now sitting on 4 eggs a peice starting OVER! This has made the secound time I have lost eggs under a broody due to leaks into the nests.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I went out and found my poor broodies this morning sitting in a leaking nest with pipping eggs. My mama's head was directly under the leak and she had the most miserable wet hen head I've ever seen, but she wasn't moving. That's the perseverance of a broody. I picked up her eggs and moved them over to a dry side and my DH came out and reinforced the nest boxes with some roofing stuff. Now it's raining again. Two of the babies are out fluffy and dry and two are pipped and should be out just any time.

I hope you have better luck with this upcoming hatch.
