2 Cayuga Girls & 1 Cayuga Drake

I went to pick up Mama & the Dr gave me the good news & the bad news.

The good news is she swam, she ate & she pooped 7 or 8 times. He said she seemed happy & engaged. He doesn’t think she’s in any pain.

The bad news is that she still isn’t pooping gravel. It’s just not coming out.

The Dr gave her some light massage but he said he would like her to come back tomorrow so he can be more aggressive with massaging the lump of gravel. He said it may cause damage but it’s kind of a last ditch effort to see if he can manually break it up.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. I honestly don’t know what else we can try.

It’s most definitely a miracle she’s still alive! Absolutely! ❤️ I guess what worries me is exactly what the Dr said which is that manually trying to massage it out might cause other damage to her other organs. That being said I believe with all my heart that what is meant to be will be. We are continuing to pray for a miracle so she can get back to her buddies. She heard them today, and vice versa, and they really need to get back together again!

We just dropped Mama off. She had a great night of eating kale, peaches & cracked corn. She drank & pooped too...unfortunately no grit though.

I overslept this morning, I’ve been sleeping on the floor next to her, so she started quacking super loud to wake me up. :)

The doctor is going to try to shoot some type of saline solution up into her, almost like an enema, to see if there’s some other way to get things moving. He thinks Mama is more than likely adapting to the blockage but she obviously can’t live like this long term.

Prayers would sure be appreciated as this is the day we may have to make some hard decisions. We’re praying this enema type solution & the combined deep massage break the grit up so that we can get it out of her once and for all.

The clinic is closed on weekends and I honestly don’t know how we can administer two or three meds plus a pill twice a day. Our attempts at giving her liquid meds have been a complete failure so I can’t even begin to imagine trying to give her pills...

If I can administer liquid drug and pills you can. Did I give you the info?

Some how poop is making it through the blockage. Which means something is happening in there.

I'll def be praying. :hugs

Thank you so much for your prayers!! You did give me the info & I appreciate it! ❤️❤️❤️

Despite having the info though it’s been a real struggle on our end. More than that though the vet agrees we can’t keep going indefinitely. From everything Speer said the blockage should have been out by now & it isn’t.

The vet we’re working with now said the mass is stuck at the cloaca. It goes higher up but it hasn’t dropped any lower than the cloaca and this really concerns him.

Thoughts?

I understand what your saying, and I totally agree this can’t go on indefinitely. I hope progress is made today. Did they mention surgery? Not saying you should do it but just wondering if it was brought up at all.

The beginning of lithotripsy was drilling holes in the stony mass so that it would crumble. These days, it is done with lasers or shock waves. Some vets do it, but I have no idea how this would work if the stony mass includes granite. Just putting it out there in case it leads to an idea.

The stool softener is sweet, and your duck may reliably drink it in her drinking water. I do think she is adapting to it, and both animals and people have survived for long periods of time with large foreign objects in their guts. They tend to round off over time, and don't necessarily cause pain.

Thinking of you.
