Here are a few pics of my buckeyes.

5wks old, 16 out of 48 hatched, 17 non fertile,

Plus two of these, if anyone would like to guess their heritage, ( supposely buckeyes) edit to add that the mystery chicks have been identified. They are actually blue laced red wyandottes that got mixed in with the buckeye eggs. Now watch both turn out to be roos.LOL

and then these 10 onewk olds, out of 24 replacement eggs, again, 11 non fertile, 3 early quiters.

You can also see 3 cuckoomarans and 2 welsumers in that bunch

Oh, wow .... I don't have a clue about that one! Is it possible that a stray roo jumped in with the Buckeye hens? Were the Cuckoo Marans and Welsumers in with those eggs too .... expected or a surprise?

My guess on those two, although hard to tell at that age. Is someone has bred some dark cornish into the line and you've got that lacing as a throwback. Some folks who really know what they are doing have done that, but some who don't know what they're doing have tried it too.

I would say, raise them to butcher age and make a choice, keep or eat. Who knows what their adult plumage will look like. Have seen folks sell "culls" because of plumage defects and lost in the shows a few months later to that same cull. If they are culls, word has it that Buckeyes are very tasty!
