Go back and look at the first couple of pictures. When I saw them I wondered what the roof was going to look like and was not surprised when I saw the next pictures.

It is really a cute roof line.

Thankyou! It was quite easy to do... we cut 45o angles on the four 2x4s but that made the roof too "peaked" so cut again (I think that made it 90o?) nailed 2 together at the peak, then 2 more so it formed a + . then we cut those off so they stuck out about 4" and connected them to the frame with hurricane clips/joist hanger thingies

Then took 4 seperate pieces of 2x4 about 2 ft long and cut another angle at one end / With it flipped over it so it sat straight out, and was nailed onto each of the 4 "rafters"
It's making it a little hard to attach the shingles though. Wood shingles dont flex like the other kind.
We then cut 1x2 graduating in size (smallest at top) horizontally 10" apart to nail the shinges to...but next time I would've used 2x4s again as the 1x2 wern't strong enough for nailing..so Arron used screws instead.
We nearly had an uhoh! moment when we thought the top of the door would hit the facia board but it clears by a hair..so whew! on that one

Can you go back and make the coop a portable coop? You might not need a permit if it is not in the ground. Just a thought. It would be worth checking out esp. if the fees are higher to get your plans stamped.

Come move to Polk County, Fl. I'd love to have you as my neighbor and we can have chickens without complaint. Called our codes dept. today and they said no limit to gender or number. Just that the coop has to be 25ft off property line. Amazing how different things are from county to county and state to state. Keep up the good work

Thank you everyone for all the lovely comments!

For the roof.. I took some more pictures to give you a better idea..
From the inside...

The cute little white picket fence is *hopefully* going to hold some of the shavings up there. The metal rods from the picket fence are soon to be sawed off... but the base of the rods will be great to hold the fence in place on the shelf with the holes drilled for them!

In the corner here we are going to have the nestboxes... nestboxes coming soon....

Well.. we are having such a ramp dilema! The original plan was to come forward with it... but when we held the boards up from where our shelf edge is.. it would have been waaay too steep for the silkies

... So then, in the middle of the night, we just threw this arrangement up there with a few nails. The plan is to re-work it.. but how? We need something that doesen't take up all the room and is practical for the silkies and bantams to climb. Does anyone have any ideas for us?

Whatever we make to substitute this.. we are going to make use of some rubber matting stuff for their feet. Erin laughed at me when I explained that BYC'ers have said that silkies seem to have delicate feet. "Your poor chickens have delicate toesies!"...
