Hello, I'm a bit worried about one of my chicks. I got 3 of them yesterday and all 3 was vibrant and energetic.
tonight I went in to give them more water and one is sitting in the corner of the brooder by its self, the other 2 running around fine.
the one that wont move can still chirp and i seen her about 4 hours ago eating. now sounds don't bother her like it does the other 2.
she just stands there in 1 spot even if the other chicks peck her, i noticed shes breathing heavy but the temp is 92 i can't seem to get it to 95
i tried moving the lamp so its 90, tried moving it closer been adjusting it different for the last 4 hours and she just stands there. her left wing hangs a bit lower
than normal. she was fine 5 to 6 hours ago. when i pick her up she fights and peeps and if i sit her on my chest she will move around
but in the brooder she just stands still. even if i take out the other chicks she just stands there and starts breathing hard.
is she scared of the red light? is the other chicks scaring her? is she sick and when i pick her up she feels more secure?
i don't know but this is a bit nerve racking. she don't have any ticks/bugs. no pasty butt. nothing I can see wrong. she only gets active if I am holding her. if i uncover her she follows my hand and lays against it on her side. I have never seen chicks act this way. I hope shes not dying.
this scares me because just a few weeks ago they Stopped the VND quarantine and i'm hoping she don't have VND
that will make me very sad and pissed off etc. i gave her some water with electrolites and probiotics called growMAX
chicken probiotics but she wont drink it. I could use some ideas.

EDIT: something i just noticed is she keeps her right side eye closed and won't open it. The lady i got the chicks from said they had their shots and i'm feeding them medicated chick pellets.

after putting a seperator in the brooder, all 3 chicks layed down, and shes breathing heavy still but now laying down. I seen her poop and there is no poop. its just water with the white cap in it. she seems very stressed out but kinda calm now that she can't be pecked in her vent.
but still no improvement in her breathing. I hope she is fine tomorrow but I can't even sleep thinking shes going to die. they only had 1 black star and that is what i was told she is.

@Wyorp Rock You have helped me so many times before when i got my first flock. have you ever seen any chickens act this way?

Do you have Poultry Cell or Poultry NutriDrench on hand? You can give a couple of drops orally, and then dip it’s beak into water several times letting it swallow, and repeat often. The chick is very weak, and this may revive it. Check for any poop stuck on feathers of the vent.

I been giving her Nutri Drench but Shes not responding to it, This morning shes improving and NOT breathing hard, but she still will not walk around. i did get her to eat food and drink, and when i do get her to walk shes limping a small bit. I think she got injured by the other chicks. I'll keep updating my post.

dealing with full grown chickens = EZ
dealing with baby chicks = nerve racking,
drives me crazy, why the hell do we put ourselves through it? lol

So update, chick is starting to move around more and cleaning her feathers, ate like a very small bit for 5 maybe 10 mins, drank alot of water, shes not breathing hard anymore but still stands still. she did run accross and bumped the other chick that was drinking water into the water bowl and ran over to her same spot(so funny i laughed so hard) so shes moving a bit more but not much.

Bad update this morning, I woke up and heard the chicks chirping and running fast in the brooder freaking out being really loud and I found her convulsing and she is gone now..
I picked her up and held her till she took her last breath and went limp. I inspected her afterwards and found a hole about the size of a dried pepper corn under her vent that looked pretty bad, I guess the other chicks injured her to a point of no recovery and she got an infection or maybe something else. I don't know. but she is gone now. 😭😭😭😭😭

I’m sorry you lost her, but you did everything you could. Some of them just don’t make it. 😢

True but I never seen one die like that. i thought maybe she was having a bad dream till i realized it was my bad morning. one of my hens used to do the same when she was about 5 weeks old in her sleep she would twitch but it went away last year so i figured it was the same till she died. Its a bit traumatizing when they die in your hands.
