2 eggs today - one very soft shelled

My 16 month old Buff Orphington laid two eggs today - one hard shelled and the color was a little off - and the other completly soft shelled. She has been laying daily, great hard yummy eggs before this. Any ideas on what might cause this? She is free range and has been getting extra protein with her sister who is in a molt right now.
Also - is the soft shelled egg OK to eat? So weird - I could pick it up and handle it and the shell didn't break - it was just very mushy!
