Are your roosts higher than your nest boxes?

Not exactly sure what a hen "should know". This one knows it wants to sleep in the nest box.

In the meantime, maybe try putting a gallon water jug in the box when you lock up and taking it out when you let them out in the am?

It's a chicken's natural instinct to roost as high as possible...whether on a roost or in a next box.

That makes sense! Mine do that and i just gave up! They lay on the floor and it drives me nuts~

Here are some pictures so you get an idea of what it looks like. Only a couple inches lower, but I guess to them it makes a difference... My idea was to make a higher roost perpendicular to these to so that it goes across the middle.
