Anyone heard of this? There was an egg in the coop this morning (a delicious egg) but our hen is only 2 months old! Is this possible or should I assume that our 8 month old runner drake (Richard).... Is a girl?

I would agree, two months old is too young. Have checked what color the eggs should be for your hen as opposed to your drake? There should also be a noticeable size difference. A two month old would lay a small egg, whereas a drake would probably be more of a medium egg to start.

It was a big egg! The little girl is a mallard... And the boy(?) is a runner..... Do runner eggs have a certain look to them?

Well.... After a little more research.... Richard is a girl! The poultry farmer that gave her to us told me that it was a male and I just took his word for it. She has a SUPER strong and loud quack!

Then your he is definitely a she! Depending on the specific breed, the Runner will have various shades from green to light cream to charcoal colored. The mallard eggs seem to be primarily green colored. I'm no duck expert, though.
