I have a BO, 1 1/2y old. I've posted about her before. I want to say that 2 months have passed by since she's been having issues. a few times I thought she was going to die. I thought she had impacted crop at first. I've thought many things! but geesh, she is still kicking and I still dn't know what the issue is. I just treated for worms in hopes that that would solve it. but she still seems to be not right. all her butt feathers are gone and she has a messy bottom. her vent goes in and out and in and out. she sits around by herself a lot. (then again she is the odd one out, so that is a little normal for her). but I have no idea where to go next with this. the nasty filthy bum and vent going in and out isn't normal ya know? any idea what I should do next?

its just poo coming out. all her feathers around it are just nasty from all the poo. she's been this way for about 2 months though. I'm super confused at how/why she's still kicking at this point. LOL!

What all have you given her? If her vent is working in and out could she possibly have a yeast infection? I don't know I am just thinking out loud and hopefully giving you a bump up for someone else to come along.

wow, I never thought of a chicken having a YI! wow.

well, I had one chicken die this past spring. I thought she was eggbound because her vent was going in and out like that. 2 weeks went by while I tried to figure it out and eventually i figured out it was impacted crop. tried to deal with that, ended up doing crop surgery but she just went too long.

so when this chicken had the vent going in and out, I immediately thought impacted crop. did the whole massagy thing and all that jazz. watched her to make sureshe wasn't eggbound. saw her lay one

I don't remember what else I did. she felt bothered by me massaging her crop though when I was doing that. it felt like there was something hard in it. this was almost 2m ago that i did that.

Go to the search box and type in yeast infection in vent and see if you can find symptoms that match your hen's. It probably wouldn't hurt to give her yogurt anyway just make sure it has live cultures and is not artifically sweetened.

Have you tried her on antibiotics, maybe she has a kidney infection. There was someone with this problem a couple weeks ago. I think the topic was 'Please Look At My Butt'.

okay try this... Cranberries and DE in her feed.. Feed her Boss, wheat, layer, and the cranberries.. whole (cut up) give her some eggs as a protien boost.. some almond and sprinkle her feed with cinnamon and food grade DE and tumeric... You may also put some Apple Cider vinegar in her water.. whether it is yeast or any other kind of infection... food is medicine.. some opt to give a garlic clove in the crop as well as a cranberry capsule... i hear this is effective..I believe it is done several days in a row...

yes, I just finished the worm regimen a couple days ago.

OK, I will look up those threads.

Could I just give her water with grapefruit seeds extract in it? it fights yeast and bacteria. or perhaps I could try and see if she's eat a supplement a couple times per day? or would she not be able to digest a hard supplement?
