2 New Black Cochin Cockerels..... Meet Butler & Big Sam

If I can't find a Rooster for them soon. they will likely go in with either Butler or Big Sam for now.

I will put you down for eggs from them and let you know when I have some.

okay! you have my full permission to put them in with your current roos for now, and if/when you get them a SL roo switch them out. It would be REALLY easy to tell who was sired by who, lol. Good luck in your search. I will be certain to let you know if I find anything good you could use.

I am in the process of seperating all my breeding birds. The reason I got 2 black boys so that I would have 3 Roosters for my BBS breeding.

I also have the Barred Pair, they will be in a breeding pen by themselves.

If I can find boys for my SL and Partridge, then I will end up with 3 breeding pens for BBS
A Pen for Silver Laced
A Pen for Partridge
and
A Pen for Barred

I love Cochins and yours are gorgeous!

What will you get if you cross your silver laced girls with the solid black roo? Will there be some silver laced chicks? ....or will they be carriers for SL? I don't know how the genetics of the silver laced gene works. I might be interested in some eggs/chicks too.

I will have PArtridge later this year. I will probably hatch some eggs before selling them, I usually do that to test fertility.
I am picking up a Cockerel on Tuesday for my Partridge hen and a couple more pullets too.

I also hatch first, because seeing a bullseye on a yolk is a far cry from hatching out a viable chick. I try to hatch out, or have someone else hatch out a dozen or so at a time, some in an incubator and some under a broody before I decide if they are good eough to ask people to pay for them.

That's especially good for me, since I don't have an incubator, lol!

To finally get some more standard Partridges, I'd be willing to buy eggs and try it, but chicks are a much better option.

I have one single silver laced Cochin pullet, and I'd like to have more, but she's actually a bantam, although kind of on the large size for a bantam, but I guess I'll keep looking since you'll only have standard chicks. She's such a doll. Would it be ok to breed her to my black bantam Cochin male? I know nothing about the silver lace genetics.
