2 Very sick chickens possible Mareks disease - please help!!

They are on their way to the vet at the moment. The second chook unfortunately passed away last night. She is still being taken to the vet I think to be checked over. It is really devastating, they are both but her especially had some really great personalities and I never thought this is how she would go.
Sorry for your loss :hugs hopefully your vet can help the other one and give you some answers.

Sorry for your loss. A chicken’s body can be sent to the state vet for a necropsy to find a cause of death, rather than taking it to your local vet who may do the same and charge extra. In this list of state vets you will find your local state vet to contact and how to keep the body cold to send it M-F:

Thanks so much for your help but unfortunately I live in Australia so I will not be able to do that. But thanks anyway. My dad is the one taking them to the vet so whatever they do it is up to him.

The preliminary vet examination found no specific cause but they are believe it is botulism or something similar. She is still at the vet in ‘intensive care’ at the moment on a drip to keep her hydrated and alive. They are going to run some tests to try to find the problem. So far my other chooks are all healthy and fine.

A few days ago we could all smell a rotting animal in our yard but we couldn’t find what it was. I have a suspicion that they may have gotten into the maggots etc of that and it has caused the botulism/whatever it is.

Aww bless you, so sorry you are going through this, and hoping for a good outcome 🤞🤞🤞

She is still at the vet right now and as of yesterday the vet told us she was showing signs of improvement. There is still hope ☺️. They still aren’t sure what happened but they are looking into it. We are having a little funeral for Roxy in the backyard this afternoon (but at the moment she is in cold storage at the vet 😔).
