So a friend found some baby chicks just roaming around in her yard, she tried to see whose they were but had no luck, so she gave them to me to care for.
Ive raised baby chicks inside before but boy do they stink! Haha
I wanted to know if i can just keep them outside in a seperate area with a heat lamp? During the day here in north texas its 95, but at night it is down to 70's, so lastnight i kept a heat lamp on and today this morning too until the weather gets to 90 i turn it off and they seem fine.
Is this okay to do?

They are fine outside, and probably without heat. Especially during the day.
Yes, I know we are told that chicks can’t handle anything until they’re feathered. But I’ve seen the opposite. In the winter, my chicks, poults and ducklings have shunned the heat lamp completely.

I put some chicks in an outside brooder last summer at 10 days to 2 weeks. It was hot out and I didn't have any extra heat source on them. They all did fine.
