2 Week Old Black Chick - Questioning Breed and Sex ?

This little chicky, named Black the Raptor by my 4.5-year-old son, we have had for two weeks. I thought Black the Raptor was a female Australorp (that's what we were told) but I'm second guessing.

All the other chicks we got at the same time (different breeds) have tail feathers and are really feathering in, but she's still barely got feathers on her wings. Also, looking at pictures of Australorp chicks, she is way more black and has been almost all black since we got her.

Any thoughts? (I know it's too early to know the sex for sure)

She's got more black on her than my Tyra, but other than that they look pretty similar. Yours has more feathers but then mine is supposedly a week old.

Looks kinda like an Aussie to me. It's chest is darker than mine, but otherwise they look the same.

looks like a black Australorp to me. The different breeds can feather in differently.

Update - 4 weeks old.

Lots of waddle and comb development and now I am seeing some faint brown and white coloring on their wings. I didnt think Black Australorps had any brown?

Looking at pictures of Black Copper Maran chicks, she totally looks like one of them!
Did yours have that much comb and waddle development at 4 weeks?

Yes she almost looked like a mini adult. Those coppers are such pretty and good natured babies too!
