2 week old goat with diarrea? -GOT WORST!!!?

Quote:
Yes I feed her raw goat milk from the supermarkets

12oz 3 times a day- websites and the breeder told me that the store bought one is actually better than formula :x so thats what I did.

Real whole milk, even from a cow, is much better for them than milk replacer

I emailed the site and they said store bought milk was fine.

She has hay but she just licks and nibble it.

I'm going to get milk replacer tomorrow to see if she does better on that...or should i try treatments from the goat wisdom site first?

.....also, there is something called probios..it helps goats with dirrah....not sure if kids can have it though...ask at the store....also, i would get her a electrolyte drink....they have them cheap at the feed stores..she may need it because she is so young and has dirrah...i hope she gets better..they can go down and die quickly...best of luck!, Wendy...also...try to get her to eat hay...

No dont feel bad , you just didn't have any previous knowlege about what to give it. Its totally understandable when you first get into goats or any kind of animal, to have questions. you learn from your mistakes. Trust me Iv made many in the past.

i'v raised 3 bottle babies

...just gotta get the right food for her..(now that you know.).....best of luck, Wendy

You've gotten lots of great advice from experts here (which I knew you would). I just wanted to give you something else to think about. You have a little boy.... are you planning on castrating him? Have you thought about the pros (not very many) and cons of keeping a buck if you don't castrate him?

Adding my 2 cents.....I used Sav-A-Kid powdered goats milk, anything else pretty much will give them the runs. The move alone to your place is enough to stress him out & give him tummy trouble.

If you are not going to breed I recommend banding him, the bucks stick to high heaven & they have disgusting ways!

Wethers make very nice pets but do it very soon before his bag gets to large, they grow very fast!

Good luck!

When a goat's digestive system is upset, be it from stress or diet, they become extremely susceptible to coccidiosis. If the diarrhea doesn't clear up in a couple of days, you may want to look into dosing him with some a sulfa drug. I had two little boys come to me this way and I used Scour-halt for pigs with great success.

ok heres an update: this morning she didnt want to eat the formula but she did drink water though. I got too worried and took her to the vet. He perscribed some diarrea medicine and gave me a stomach tube to force feed her. Also gave me this white liquid thingy to inject her with.
