Hi first time chicken owner. I'm not allowed to own roosters in my city so it'd be best if I can identify them early and return them to the store. I've looked up online and makes don't usually have tail feathers but the chicks comb is pretty defined this young.

Unfortunately chicks this young are hard to sex. Gender specific feathers/patterns don't start to show until around 12 weeks. You'll want to look at comb and wattle development starting around 4 weeks, sometimes it can take 6-8 weeks to be sure.

I’ve been looking with someone with an Orpington to help sex their chicks :D
I have a couple questions that might help define this, I have 4 buff Orpington chicks so im somewhat experienced lol

Did you get them from TSC, if so in the pullet section?

At what age did she/he get their tail feathers
Also what age did you get them?
And right now how old is he/she and send more photos, thanks~

Hi I got them from Kahoots pet store. They just have bins of chicks. I got them according to the store at ~1.5 weeks of age. They got their tail feathers a few days after I got them so ~2 weeks? And right now according to my calculations she should be ~5 weeks.

She's currently my friendliest chick so I'm hoping she's not a roo. She comes running when I open the coop door and will jump into my hand.

I was certain my lavender Orpington from Hoover’s was a cockerel, until she laid her first egg! I was shocked! I’m new to this chicken adventure and had posted pictures here with mixed opinions returning about her gender so it was a total “wait and see” situation. She has been laying for about 3 weeks now. I will look in my photos and see if I have pictures of her at this age. If so, I will post them. You can also look on my profile (I think) and see the past posts I made.
