that's some impressive sling you've made!

glad you've got some family on your chicken's side
thanks, i hope it’s more comfortable for him than laying on the floor. my cousin is definitely a life-saver. he’s a super big chicken person and has raised them for years now. me and him are really the only ones in our family that sees them as pets more than anything.

When I was at work, my mom ended hitting one of my cockerels over the head with a broom because he tried flogging her. They said this happened around 10am and they left him under a tree and put a branch over him so the other roos wouldn’t pick on them. That’s about the extent of care they did. I got home around 2pm and he was still laying there. We don’t have a vet near that will look at chickens, so I don’t know what to do. It’s 9pm and he still hasn’t moved ( I did bring him inside and put him down in the basement) nor does it seem like he has pooped at all. He can move his legs some but will just fall over if you try to set him down on his feet.
Has limited movement in his neck and mostly keeps it tucked/scrunched in close to his body. Makes a few noises when I pick him up, but just stares at me and lays on his side otherwise.

It’s 9pm now and improvements seem...very few and slow-coming.
How hard did your mom wack him with the broom I would wait till morning see how he is then it might just take a little time and he maybe scared

luckily there’s a feed store on the way home from college, so i remembered to stop and pick up electrolyte mix for chickens. it has some vitamins in it too, so i figured that would help him out as well. right now he’s in the ‘vault’ ( precious owners of the house made this fireproof room to store the important documents and whatnot ) where the safes are in the basement. it stays dark and pretty quiet. anyways, he’s eating pretty well when i put the food in his mouth, so i don’t think he needs to have a tube in just yet.
When I’ve maintained a few chickens in slings, I’ve taken them out for the night and let them sleep in deep bedding instead. I hope the sling helps him!

i honestly have no idea and she really doesn’t either. she didn’t think she hit him that hard, but he’s been out of it since Saturday. we think she gave him a concussion, so at least hard enough to do that.

what do you use for deep bedding? my dad suggested propping him up with towels but i feel like he’d just kick away from them and end up on his side all over again.

Has he pooped at all? What does that look like? Keep up the feeding and watering, you are doing a good job!
yeah, he’s been pooping. it’s more water than anything, but that’s because i’ve only been giving him a little bit of food at a time throughout the day.
