I've been following this thread and cheering your rooster and you on. You did such an amazing job caring for him, posting updates here, and giving him the very best life. I'm so sorry to hear he died. Honestly, as much as I love my chickens, I can't imagine having the patience and empathy you showed towards your rooster, even while being busy taking classes.
 
you really can only defend my mom at the initial swing when she thought he was going to attack her. she’s also only in her late 40s. after she hit him, both her and my dad left him lay for 4 hours in 80 something degree weather.

I know you want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she isn’t a great person.
Yeah. That was inconsiderate and...well, the roo must have had a reason to not like her, maybe how she acted towards his hens.
Honestly, I’m guessing she hit him a few times to have that damage done. One strike is not likely to do that. I hope she feels bad. I would be steaming mad if it was my family member. But I hope you’re better than me. I have a hard time forgiving.
