I was out and passed a few doe up, of course i never take doe normally to the very end of season here....only seen one buck so far, but way to far to shoot...Still got some vacum packed venison in the freezer from late last season(buck and doe taken)trying to finish up..Lots of jerky being made this past month..

That roast sounds good...

Best of luck the rest of the season to you
Hope you have a good T line ready for when it opens up..

Sorry to go off topic here but WV has an actual squirrel season? Squirrel up here
are just treated as varmints.

Is squirrel hunting popular? I imagine it would be a great way to train young hunters.
Are they good? I imagine sorta like rabbit?

I hope I didn't need a license for the chipmunks I "reduced the population" on.

Yes, we have a regular squirrel season here PC. Every Fall. Better than rabbit, takes 5 or 6 to make a nice meal of fried squirrel, gravy and biscuits

We live in the country where squirrel are not considered pests. Takes a good eye, aim and patience to shoot a squirrel in a tree!

Hubby is out squirrel hunting as I type, so I'm sure it's on the menu for tomorrow night

Nice job! Congrats! She's about the size of an average muley buck here.

DH just took a bull elk a couple weeks ago. 425 lbs hanging meat. First bull tag he's drawn in 10+ years. He's a Hoyt fan.

ETA; regarding your comment on wildlife conservation, I agree whole heartedly! We've suffered such a horrible drought the last several years, the deer and elk continue to reproduce, but we don't have the green feed in their natural environment for many of them to thrive. It's hard for some people to believe, but the animals can and DO starve to death out there.

Ms. Lewis Rich :

Congrats!!!!!
Have you ever had any made into a sausage tastes like Summer sausage really good.

Summer sausage made from deer meat is the best...Wish I had some right now.

Way to go Sam! We are an archery family-my father in law owns an archery shop. I'm getting my bow set up right now to hunt next year. My dh shot a very nice 5x6 bull elk early season, and we'll be back out there for a deer in a few weeks.
For anyone who does eat meat, but doesn't like the thought of hunting deer: they have much better lives and are more respected during death than any commercial meat animal.
