2008 Archery Doe...PIC!

I totally agree! My mom hit a deer with her car, twice! I just wish all hunters would eat their kill, whatever it is. Wast not, want not. My husband just got a hunting bow this summer, but he hasn't gone out with it yet...

Yes, we have a regular squirrel season here PC. Every Fall. Better than rabbit, takes 5 or 6 to make a nice meal of fried squirrel, gravy and biscuits

We live in the country where squirrel are not considered pests. Takes a good eye, aim and patience to shoot a squirrel in a tree!

Hubby is out squirrel hunting as I type, so I'm sure it's on the menu for tomorrow night

So, how does squirrel taste? What parts do you eat, and last but not least, how do you cook them?

BTW, Sam, glad you're eating the doe, not just shooting it for sport.
 
Ewesheep- we take our own deer meat to the processors, they dont sell it. all of the packages are marked not for retail sale. It is illegal for anyone to sell wild game. If a person wants to try something new that they have made, you can make a donation to sample something.
 
I know a lot of people here in Az who love the sport of hunting, but perhaps don't really 'need' the meat. Often times, they donate the meat to Food Banks, etc. I've never known a hunter who voluntarily wastes the meat, though I do realize there are those who do.

I like to crockpot them with onions, etc till the meat falls off the bone. Then I remove the bones and make Brunswick Stew. If you want fried squirrel, they can't be too old and I can't tell an old one from a young one so I err on the side of caution. I'd rather have a good stew than tough fried bushytail!
