**2009 Quilt Block Swap for April**

I too love that rooster fabric! I don't think the block looks bad, but I know what ya mean.. I get particular too wehn I'm sending a block out. lol

I really like that pattern as well... what is it called?

Thanks! It looks worse in person than in the picture, I swear! I may tear it all apart and give it one more try...

Elven, it's called Card Basket - I got it from Marcia Hohn's Quilt Blocks Galore site.

I am feeling better... I haven't been running to the bathroom so much this evening as I was earlier. That's definitely a good thing. Back to work tomorrow for me (even though I'd rather stay home and get some blocks done).

I thought I had said how much I love that block Gin but I guess I just thought it and didn't write it but it is AWESOME!!!!! Very, very nice and I love it!!!!!

Beth....I think your "failed attempt" is better than some of my finished blocks. I think you should send it. I hope you feel better.

Chevy, I totally agree with Leeps!!!

I was only able to get a fat quarter of it at the Lancaster quilt show. Can I ask what site you saw it on. I would like to make a quilt with that material but I need to fussy cut it and I need more.

Thanks Ginger

Thanks Scrambled egg, and Beth I could never in my life time get stripes to line up. I think it looks great and it looks like a lot of work.

Hey all blocks are looking great.

Beth sorry to hear you are sick hope ya feel better today. I think the block looks great.

Gin nice block love that chicken it is just too cute.

FR Chuck hope all is going better for you.

Jean, yes things have calmed down a bit at this end. My brother is stabilized for the moment and I have instructed my nephew and niece to call me immediately if there is any change in his condition. Thank you for asking.

Those are great blocks so far everybody. I see instead of sending to Ginbart I get to send to SE instead, but I did say I would commit to three blocks this month so I guess I'll have to wait to find out who my third victim er swapper will be.

Beth I can relate to not finding things after putting them away. I have a sander somewhere in the closets that I can't remember which one I put it in. That comes from not labeling things like I should have, and keeping all my tools in one place. Major house cleaning and organizing ahead for me!

I saw an easy way to make those triangle squares on TV the other day on one of the quilting shows. You cut out two squares the same size and place them right sides together. Then you mark a center line from corner to corner, sew them together using a 1/4" seam allowance on both sides of the center line. Once you have sewn both seam allowances you cut both pieces along that center line. Voila! You have two squares that are already triangles half and half. Hope this helps some of us that are struggling with some of the patterns.

I think that your block looks lovely. If you are having a problem with your 1/2 square and your 1/4 square triangle sections of your block, I have a suggestion. Since even being slightly off on your seam allowance can wreak havoc on the size of those portions of your block, make those sections slightly larger than what you need. Then, before you incorporate them into your block, use your acrylic ruler (marked with the appropriate angle lines) to cut them to the exact size you need. It takes a lot of the stress out, and you get better precision.

Thanks everyone!

Chuck, that's how I do them - except that I don't cut the strips into squares first. They stay rectangles and I mark the square, draw the diagonal line on each square, sew on each side of the diagonals, then cut on the center line, then the diagonal lines and you get 4 at one time!

That's another thing I learned from Marcia Hohn & her patterns. Also, I'm glad that things have settled down for you and your brother is stabilized.

Jody, thanks for the tip! That would probably help a lot! I never really thought about that. I think one of the things that threw me off is that the 1/4 square traingles actually had 2 - 1/8 square triangles to make up the 1/4. I really don't see any need for them to be like that, so I'm thinking I'll just cut a 1/4 square triangle for that part in my next attempt.

Here's the pattern for the block
