What is the point to the requirement to create a 'cool page' in order to be in the contest?

I can't answer for Nifty, but personally I enjoy looking at people's pages and it's a nice archive for future reference.

Nifty, maybe there is someone out there that can help people that are challenged with the "create a page" for a small fee. It really doesn't take much time at all if you have the content and the pictures in jpeg format.
