2010 HomeMade Chicken Incubator Contest - Win $20 Gift Cert. Ends 9/12

Hello,

Congrats to all winners in this contest.
When I have little chicks next year in my new incubator I will place some nice pictures on my page.
Thanks for all your kindnes and friendship.

Greetings Arie

Just an update but my second run is done and I had 108 eggs on lockdown and hatched 87 chickies so I think thats an acceptable rate for being the second run, I've decided that I'm going to build another one now and use the first as an incubator and the new one as the hatcher so I can just keep the eggs turning in the first and move them to the hatcher on day 18, I think that will allow me to have more fresher eggs to go in as overlaps won't matter or be interfered with by having to shut down the turner, So now I'm eyeballing all my stuff and sizing up everything as to wether or not it would work for what I'm needing LOL This has really been a fun and rewarding project and one that will last me a long time :)
I'll edit later and add some pic's of my new additions

Congrats Bill with the 87 chickies, I think with you thats an acceptable rate for the second run. I like to see the pictures of the improvements and of the chickies when you have made some.
It is a good idea to build an Hatcher. I can not wait to see that new project of you.

This is Sandra Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of forum on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your forum. Thanks

on the thermometer you are using, now that its adjusted to your incu take out the batterie at your highest temp and put it back in, this will reset and will keep your high temp and then you will be able to find your low temp I noticed it said 88 in the pix

This little incubator was made with a 9x15 styrofoam box from a Pharmacy, my daughter's old lamp, a wire mesh filing tray, some foil, tape, glue and a piece of glass from an old picture frame. For vents I used jam jar lids with holes drilled into them.
