How? Some sites I go on automatically open links in new tabs/windows but not this one. How would you set it?

Oh, and if you right-click on the link instead of left-click, a menu opens up that gives you the option to open the link in a new tab or window

You can right click the link and tell it what you want it to do.

Look in your Options. In Firefox you can tell it to open links in a new tab.

ok iam using firefox
go to the top where file, edit view , history bookmarks tools
left click on tools
left click on option

then u see general, tab, content, application privacy etc
click on general tab on top
click on tabs
make sure you have a check marks in
open new windows in new tabs instead
and
when i open a link in a new tab, switch it immediate

then hit okay

in ie
on the top you will see the same info file edit go to tools
tools
then
internet option
general security privacy, etc
left click on general
you would see tabs by the bottom of box
tabs change how webpages are display in tabs setting
left click on setting
you will see tabbed browsing setting
put a check mark enable tabbed browsing
check marks
warm me when closing multiple tabs
always switch to new tab when they are created
enable quick tabs requires restart ie
enable tab group
when a new tab is opened, open: drop down windows
the new tab page
when a pop-up is encountered:
put the dot in the always open pop-ups in a new windows

open links from other programs in:
put the dot in a new tab in the current window
then hit ok
and the closed your browser and reopen it to the new sittings

click on general tab on top

Perhaps an "ignore thread" button so it disappears from your life and never comes back.

I would use it on the five hundred threads that say "Post X" as long as you can until the staff intervenes.

Really, though, BYC is a pretty decent site as it is.

A calculator of some sort for mixing feed would be of use. I'm not familiar with flock manager, so that may be included there. (Hopefully it includes data for other poultry besides chickens.)

Another nice little thing might be a field to tag some members as "Experts" on a topic.

I'm not sure what the process would be -- perhaps if a nomination came in from a certain number of people, or there was general agreement in a certain sub-area of BYC then this could be done. For example, we have a couple of members who are clearly the best to go to if there is an important question about Button Quail. There are a couple of members who are the experts for coturnix. I'm sure this is the case in many other areas of the boards, as well. In chickens, this could include "breed" experts -- people who have a lot of experience with specific breeds of birds.

This would also help folks judge info when there is contradictory information provided in a thread but not extensive discussion about it. I've seen some pretty blatant false info given by people who don't know what they are talking about (in one thread having admitted never raising a particular type of bird and knowing next to nothing about them but then in another thread giving advice about raising that type of bird, for example.) Obviously, others get on and try to clear things up but...

It would also help deal with the incredibly high post counts that some inexperienced members have due to various social threads. It's impossible to look at post counts to determine who has good knowledge to share, anyway.

Just brainstorming...these exact ideas probably won't work but might trigger someone else to think of something that might.

I haven't read all the messages above but I would *really* like to have a dedicated garden section and a self-sufficiency section. In the words of our esteemed Rob Ludlow

"Many people want to become more self-sufficient...".

There are many posts here about people who are having a tough time affording chickens. If people are encouraged to prepare for hard times before it hits (if it hasn't already), they can maintain their extended family a lot easier. And think about all the food recalls! Eggs, spinach, lettuce mix, etc. (http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/default.htm). It only makes sense to grow as much of your own food for yourself and your chickens as possible and avoid all these problems!

An ignore this poster button! Sometimes there are people who really push your buttons (ha ha, coming from a button quail person). It would be nice to be able to click IGNORE so that you don't see their posts (with the option of restoring their posts to your view later).

I've used these on other sites. It really is a nice feature!

Amazon's boards have this feature. I realize it may not be available with the software used here.
