2010 What Do You Want Added To The BYC Forum & WebSite?

On one's homepage on BYC, "My Page" or "View My BYC Page", there is a page visits counter at the bottom of the page.

(Eg. "Page visited: 50")

It would be very nice if the counter only registered visits from other people, not from the person who made the page.

I've been tweaking the format on my own "My Page" and noticed that every time I reload the page, the counter goes up.

Thanks!

Several people have made comments about breed threads, about how big they are, how hard it is to find particular information in them, and how people get confused about which is "the official" thread for any one breed.

Then there are splinter threads like the "new colors" thread for Silkies, the "lavender project" thread for Sussex, etc.

One other chicken forum I've been on has tried to get around this problem by allowing sub-forums within forums.

(The forum I'm talking about is in French, plumage.eu . Plumage is a new-ish forum and they don't totally have their act together, but the sub-forums are a neat idea.)

Here's how it works in practice:

On BYC today:
Index
Chicken Breeds
----> (forum) Breeds, Genetics & Showing
----> (thread) The American Paint Silkie
----> (thread) Color chart?
----> (thread) The Welsummer Thread!!!!
= Main thread for Welsummers, posts mixed together, in no particular order...
thread over 200 pages long.
----> (thread) What to pay for Pullets?
----> (thread) Silkie thread!
= Main thread for Silkies, posts mixed together, in no particular order...
thread over 140 pages long.
----> (thread) mixed breeds
----> (thread) Red silkies
----> (thread) Pictures of my silkies. :)
----> (thread) has anyone ever...
----> (thread) The Sussex Thread!
= Main thread for Sussex, posts mixed together, in no particular order...
thread over 50 pages long.

To make it easier for users, the Breeds, Genetics & Showing page could be divided into two sections
(in much the same way that the main "Index" page is divided into "Raising Backyard Chickens", "Chicken Breeds", and "Social"),

One part titled "Breed list", listing the 10 (etc) breeds most recently posted in...
And a link "More Breeds" which takes you to a page with the complete, alphabetic list of breed forums.

The second part, titled "General discussion", contains miscellaneous threads and questions, unrelated to particular breeds.
A link "More General Discussion" could take you to another page of the same,

Just a thought! I'd find it very handy to be able to ask a question about Buckeye roosters' spurs and breeding, in a place where lots of Buckeye breeders would see it but without disrupting the main Buckeye thread... and without having the question get buried under a flurry of unrelated posts about other Buckeye topics.

Best - exop

This may sound crazy but....I'd like a "jump to page" where I enter a page number on a thread and click go. It's really hard when I want to jump to the middle of a 40 page long thread and I have to do it 3 pages at a time.

Also, when I go to my profile then posts may we choose to see them as posts or as the thread title? It used to just show the title and I actually liked it better that way.

Thank you!

That is easy, go to the top where the http: is and at the end it says p= put in page number that you want (Ex: 31) press enter and ta da!

Capability of adding someone to your buddy list from under their avatar.

Ability to add "buddy groups." Kind of like group contacts? The reason I want this is because I use the buddy list as a way to save members who carry a certain breed or sell different products. This feature would assist me in grouping members that have the same breed available.

I truly wish that people wouldn't assume that when the words 'adult conversation' come up, I or anyone else is referring to 'adult rated' subject matter.

For the record, 'adult conversation' is any conversation which is discussed in an adult manner, by anyone who has previously graduated from the 12th grade. For instance, I cannot justify a discussion about the stresses of the workplace with a 12 year old, because a 12 year old has absolutely no idea what the ADULT working world consists of. To make it chicken related, I'd like to be able to post the reasons for culling a chicken without have 25 ten year old's posting little crying smilies. And as I've stated previously, the amount of 'Lets Play the BYC Favorite Roosterzzz' type games has gotten a little out of hand. It nearly seems as if BYC has become a babysitter of sorts... "Here honey, why dont you play on BYC while mommy finishes dinner." And then whaddaya know... we have another 'Nomin8 the prettiest henzzz' thread.

I'm all about this being a 'g' rated forum, but some degree of child/adult seperation shouldn't be a problem.

I completely agree with this. Plus, this made me laugh:p
