2011 POULTRY New Year's Resolutions

I resolve to get some SQ SLW's and have a roo so I can have gorgeous babies.

I resolve to build another coop with a bigger run so I can keep SLW's separate from my BO's and RIR's. I would like to sell or give purebred SLW eggs or chicks to local 4H kids who otherwise couldn't afford chickens.

I resolve to not over extend myself on chickens and take very good care of the ones I do have.

I resolve to enter at least one local poultry show (not a county fair show) with my SLW's just for fun.

I resolve to build some better nest boxes in my existing coop so my BO's and RIR hens will stop laying in my sack of shavings.

Don't get more than 55.

1/ to cease lusting for chickens when my last ones are still living in the garage.

Get the last coop built so I can move the runs outside. They have as much space as they will in the run and coop, but they make my garage yucky.

2/ To study chicken genetics and try to avoid a bazillion mutts. Make my breeding purposeful.

My parents are retiring to eastern Washington this spring or summer so we'll be moving to their farm! I'm very excited to be moving out of the city where we will have WAY more space. With all of this new room I definitely plan on expanding the flock! Here are my resolutions:

#1: Get a nice big coop built (or convert the large existing shed) with three pens: one for my layers, a breeder pen for my Marans, and a brooder pen.

#2: Hatch my first batch of Marans babies from my Blue Copper Marans roo.

#3: Hatch a batch of experiment babies for my laying flock from my Blue Copper roo and my BO hen. Maybe try a couple of BCM/BR babies too

#4: Get a couple of Silkie mamas... Partly because I love their adorable fluff and partly because I want to hatch some of my babies the old fashioned way!
