2013 Chicks Picked Out!

They are supposed to all be Polish but there was an unknown breed rooster in with them, as well. Apparently, he and the Polish rooster got along well enough. LOL! So, only one of the Polish chicks has a crest. The crested silver laced Polish and a golden laced potentially Polish both have beards. The other... Not sure. It is golden laced and beardless. XD The obvious Polish and the unbearded chick are the two skittish ones.
They sound like cool chicks!

I have a total of 61 chicks coming on the 1st!
10 Black Cochin Bantams
5 Blue Cochin Bantams
5 White Cochin Bantams
5 Self Blue Cochin Bantams
5 Mottled Cochin Bantam
5 Black Frizzle Cochin Bantams
3 Golden Laced Cochin Standards

5 Black Sumatra Bantams
5 Mille Fleur OEGB
5 Mille Fleur D'uccle Bantams
5 Golden Neck D'uccle Bantams
3 Golden Phoenix Standards

I will soon be overrun with chicks! lol

No Problem!

Ok! I finally figured out and ordered my chicks from Meyer Hatchery today! I ordered 1 Salmon Faverolle, 1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Buff Brahma, 1 Partridge Rock. I Had to move the pick up date back because the Salom Faverolle was sold out. So then I couldn't get the Columbian Wyandotte, so I got the Partridge Rock instead. March 25, I can't wait!

Does anyone have anything to say about Partridge Rocks? Thanks!

I've changed my list :) Found a place locally that will be selling chicks the week of 3/17 (they are also holding a "intro to backyard chickens" class on 2/2- excited about that!) I'd rather get them here than have them shipped. They will have Buff Orps, Black Stars, Red Stars, and EE's. I'm thinking 2 buff orps and 2 EEs, and 1 each of the stars. Think that will be a good mix?

I was planning on ordering chicks, but the hubby says I can't until after the coop is built next month. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to wait on some of the heritage breeds I wanted to get for a varied flock, since I don't think they will be available/will be sold out by the time the coop is done.

What's more likely is that I'll go down to the local TSC or Feed store and come home with a small box of random peeping chicks in the Spring.

there is nothing wrong with getting chicks from the feed store, another option is to place your order for a later date reserving the chicks you want. You might, with a little searching find small local hatcheries that have the birds you want.
There are 3 hatcheries here I found on Craigslist and in the want ads. The one down the road charges me 1.50 for a live hatched chick when he incubates the eggs we order from fellow members. The quality of the birds is usually better than the large hatcheries produce.
