2013 Chicks Picked Out!

I'm expecting the following late April:

6 French Black Copper Marans
2 Speckled Sussex
2 Silver Laced Wyandotte

All pullets.

I cannot wait!

I currently have 19 olive Eggers in the incubator but I probably won't keep any. I am hoping one of my banties goes broody. Then I will have an excuse to keep the chicks around and then just HAVE to keep one. :D I really want a fancy Orphington. There is a breeder in the area with a bunch of colors. Lemon cuckoo I think is my fav. :)

I have placed my order for April 1 for Standard Rhode Island Reds and standard Ameraucanas as well as bantams: white cochins, Ameraucanas, Duccles and Silkies!

I also have placed my order for May 1 for 9 runner ducklings and one crested duckling :)

Looking foward to spring!

I am getting my new chicks March 11th, or 18th. But I dont know what breeds to chose from. But I have narrowed it down to 8 breeds!

I don't really know. They weren't all laying until mid-October, so I don't know if that is late enough in the year that they drop off egg production or not. I have 5 girls who lay brown eggs and most days, I get 3 brown eggs, sometimes 4. And this is without supplemental light in the winter. Can you tell this is my first year with chickens? :)

I'm a newbie myself. Will be getting an Australorp, Golden Buff, Easter Egger, and a Silkie in April. The first three will be to feed my ravenous egg eating Twins, the Silkie for sheer delight.
Family is pretty darn excited, as we have waited many years for this. Looking forward to posting photos of their new coop, as it is a representation of the little town we live in.
