2013 Chicks Picked Out!

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on buying chicks thru Agway or TSC? We are ordering 20 cornish x and I want to get either 8 buff orpingtons or 8 buff rock for eggs. We started with chicks 2 years ago I got them thru Mc Murray. I was going to get 15 and thru chicken math we ended up with 29, How does that happen???? I am trying to avoid that this year, I hope.

I'd steer you toward ordering directly from a hatchery. From what I saw of TSC's custom order pricing, it was higher than ordering direct with fewer options. So, what would you be gaining?

Our order is placed! We won't be getting our chicks till mid July!!! I can't wait!

We're getting one of each:

RIR to replace the one chick that turned out to be a roo last year
SLW
Light brown leghorn
Welsummer

They will be a nice addition to our existing flock of three (barred rock, EE and black sex-link).

Chicken math strikes again!

I'm counting down the days rather than weeks now! I'm picking up four on 3/9: 2EE, a Speckled Sussex, and a cuckoo Marans.

I've been counting down the days also and I've been dreaming about getting the chicks also all post a vid of me getting the chicks

I hope to get my brooder box built this weekend and then order my first batch, flock of chickens; I am getting 5 Rd. Is. Reds, 5 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 5 Speckled Sussex.
I am so busy after I retired I don't know how I had time to have a job! But I love it.
I love this site, there is so much information.

I ordered a rainbow layer collection from McMurray. I can't wait until they get here April 1st!! I wonder how soon I will be able to tell what the breeds are?

Good Lord I've changed my order again. Original order (from Meyer) was scheduled for April 18th. Welsummer and White Sultan and was mulling over the addition of one more. This week I added a Silver Spangled Cochin to that order and a Meyer Meal Maker. But last night I noticed they suddenly have Blue Orpingtons available. What to do, what to do, kept going through my head. Ultimately I ordered 1 Blue Orpington, 1 Blue Hamburg, 1 White Crested Blue Polish, and a Meyer Meal Maker for March 18th delivery and then cancelled my April 18th order.

I also am starting a flock of Banties with a June 17th delivery from My Pet Chicken of 9 or 10. OMG.

My current flock is seven 10-week olds of seven different breeds plus a three-hen flock of 6 month old French Black Copper Marans.

Did I mention I will also be ordering 2 Easter Egger Pullets from Meyer in April? Like I said, OMG.

I will need to build 2 additional coops I think.

I ordered from Meyer back in December. They are supposed to be here last week of March. I wasn't sure which breed I would want a whole flock of, so I just picked a few of each favorite and we'll see how it goes.

I got, all female:
3 salmon faverolles
6 easter eggers
3 welsummers
3 rare marans collection assortment (hoping for some blue splash and golden cuckoos)

I really wanted a few BLRWs, but they were already out of them on the dates I was looking at.
