2014 March Coop Challenge

Oh bummer. I'm going to be too late for this. I'm designing an A-frame quail coop/run for the quail I am hopefully going to hatch out in the coming 3 or 4 weeks. Ít's in the sketchup phase still. As usual I want things that cannot be combined because of the laws of physics. Building a 8x16x7' structure out of 2x4s and then wanting it to be portable is not really going to work, lol. So back to the drawing board and hopefully make some decisions soon. I think I'll go with 2x3's and wheels, lol.

Ok here's mine (just about finished apart from a few last minute bits), it's all made from pre-used bits and although not the most professional looking coop me and my girls love it!

View of the inside (roost needs moving further away from back wall)

Rear hatch for easy egg gathering

Side view (including peephole window). This is the view we get from our living room window so we can see the girls quite nicely

Our first egg in the new nests!

I can't get a good photo of the front view as there is a fence about 5' away which means I can't fit it in the picture, I tried taking a pic over the fence but I couldn't see what I was doing!

Just started ours over the weekend! Will be a tractor coop. Dimensions are 4 ft wide by 4 ft deep by 3 ft high for the coop. Coop will be raised off the ground and that run space will be 4 ft wide by 10 ft long by 4 ft high :)

Hoping to finish it up next weekend! :)

Here is my new coop. It is 8x8 with external nest box. I built ladder type roosts. I built this coop for buff orpingtons, they are in the house in the brooder right now. intending to have 12 hens and 2 roosters in this coop.

I hope there is an April coop Challenge since I am just starting my coop this weekend as long as it isn't raining.
I already have a small coop that holds my 7 hens and one roo. But I now have four week old chicks and 10 eggs in the incubator. Gotta increase my coop. I am going to use a bunch of pallets my brother has at his shop.

At the rate I am painting, it will probably be June for me. Can we call it a Second Quarter Challenge? ;-))
