2015 breeding season

I was watching the membrane puff in and out as the chick was breathing. That made me wonder if oxygen travels through the membrane, which in turn made me wonder if I was going to sufficate it.
Interesting idea... I wondered how mine was able to peep even though it hadn't pipped.

I have used the ointment but only after there was already a hole in the membrane that air could enter through. The ointment does work to keep it clear, but I found that when I tried to peel away some membrane the ointment made it very slippery and hard to keep ahold of even with the tweezers.

Whew I am worn out, I sure am hoping lil one makes it, if it's wiggling good chsnce, when they are real still then I am scared, but yes great great pictures. Kskingbee, u did a wonderful job!

It amazes me each year about hatching of peachicks. All adults are on the exact same ration. All eggs are collected nightly, labeled, then put in my wine fridge set on 60 degrees. All are turned no less than 3 times a day until they go into the incubator. Within each collective weekly group of eggs set the diffrences are unpredictable. Same variety of birds and possibly 10 eggs from that variety all began incubation at the exact same time, all treated the same and of those 10 eggs possibly 2-3 will pip-zip and be doing the texas 2 step within 3 hrs from start to finish. The other 7 may pip and then do absolutely nothing for 24 hrs or more. Some are wrong enders as well. And I would just bet on some occassions the same hen laid one egg that took 3hrs,start to finish and another one of her eggs possibly pipped and was too weak to do anything else in the same weeklu group of eggs set.

Kskingbee, I think we all want to know the outcome of your assist last night. Maybe you said and I missed it but I been hopping up and down all day dreading to know!

I went to move another 15 eggs from the incubator to the hatcher last night, I meant to do it Friday but with the wedding and all the company it didn't get done. So when I did, I found one hatched chick and four more pipped. After candling them a few days ago it is looking like the broody hens just can't be beat. I have five broody hens cookin' now and three more ready for eggs to set.

The chick we helped out the other day seems to be getting stronger, it's having a little trouble with the shoes though.
