2015 breeding season

Good question I think they lay eggs with or without being bred though. Ice was scratching in the nest box and laying down in there yesterday afternoon like she was going to lay, but today I didn't find an egg and she wasn't puffed like she needed to lay. I am thinking I still have a rat problem and they might be getting a few of my eggs. The bait box was completely empty they have eaten all of the poison so I re-baited it. I need to check it to see if anything is eating it.

Tonight I will be candling the 14 eggs in the incubator so hopefully I will see something good.

Thanks unfortunately so far it looks like only 3 are fertile of the 14. Hopefully since it is still early in development I just couldn't see the veins, but I am doubtful.

If it's true that only 3 are fertile, then good luck with those 3!!! I'll cross my fingers for more though!

How many hours can pass between eggs hatching? These are eggs under their mother in the nest. I never had to worry before, because they were all hatched by the time I saw them. But- This is day 27 of Lucy sitting on 6 eggs. No.1 chick hatched about 1:30 this afternoon. Since then....nothing. Last check was 8:30 pm. Is No.1 chick an only child? I'm sad......

I dont know about Peacocks but I do know chicken clutches can take as much as three days to completely hatch out providing they were all layed and all set at the same time... have patience grasshoppah...

Still Sad....its been 19 hours since the first egg hatched, and still no sign of the other eggs even having a pip. FYI- Anybody who thinks peafowl can be mean are nuts- I have been pulling on my hens tail, lifting her butt off the nest by her tail to peak at the eggs, Ive pulled the chick out from under her to hold and kiss it, lifted her by the tail to put chick back under her- and she has only growled at me and made mild attempts to peck at me. I would so understand if she hauled off and nailed me with every thing she has- but never in all her years has she ever so much as pecked me.
