2015 breeding season

Congrats! I love unassisted hatch, this week all the newly hatched chicks look fine, only one needs help with toes.

By the way, its the third time this year i forgot to put the leg band on a chick before getting it out of the hatcher, now i have three BS chicks still don't know from which pens they came

Thanks! I love the unassisted ones as well. And as far as the BS chicks, it's good to hear that I am not the only forgetful one.

I usually keep the eggs shell for a day or two, so i can still see the pens numbers on the shell, but there is a missing shell this week.

I forgot to take a picture of the eggs I candled. The first 4 are at 2 weeks tomorrow. I candled them and I'm not sure what to think. I can see the air sac plain as day at the top of the egg it looks good in my opinion. The rest of the egg is pitch black until I turn the light towards the narrow tip and then it lights up more of the egg. I was wondering what does a dead egg look like candled? I hope the 4 eggs aren't dead.

The dead ones I removed yesterday had a clearly defined air sac, the lower portion of the egg was black, but the top was more clear and empty looking. It's easy when having multiple eggs since the alive one was noticeable darker throughout the egg and I could still see veining and movement. The dead ones has a mass that gather in the middle and if you briskly turn the egg the remains of the chick will move side to side.
