13/14 hatched! Last one was malpositioned and stuck. The yolk was fully absorbed and I waited to long to help, poor guy. I'm so proud though for my first time that I did so well. I must have a strong healthy flock On to the next set for Thanksgiving hatching. Should make the day exciting! Thank you to everyone for all your help!

Now this is a great hatch, and you helped a little one. Love it. Great job!

how early on can you guys tell If a serama Chick is smooth feathered, Silkied, Or frizzled? The Person I got the eggs from has several Birds who are frizzled and some that carry the gene for silkied? my little ones wing feathers are coming in now so I'm curious to find out

by a week old perhaps earlier, you can see the twist out on the wing tips, I just uploaded an image on my profile page funny u asked it! I cant find the other images, I must have taken them off my laptop

The first 2 are out they hatched exactly the same time.

Sally, why yes, yes I do stay up for my babies to hatch. Well, sort of. I have the bator in a guest bedroom, so, there is a bed that is nice and comfy...when I hear a frantic, oh my goodness I just hatched scream, I get up and take my babies out and put them into the brooder. I have 7 babies this morning! Have I ever said that I love love hatching EE's! I love all of the different colors! It's like Christmas and you're waiting to unwrap a gift, you never know what will show up. These photos aren't the best, but for now, here are my 7 and I think you were asking what everyone did for separation in their brooders. I do want these babies to be together eventually, so there is a photo of the way I do it. Here is how I separate them. Just a wire between them that fits tight. I am taking the photo through the top wire, that I lay the lamp on. A few single shots to show muffs! I see now that the kind of separator you were asking about is .. when..the eggs are in the bator. I think..?? I don't know what I think .. sometimes..just don't know. Anyway, there's a photo of my in the brooder separator..and I don't use a separator in the bator, there have been times I wish I had! I like ron's idea of the fruit baskets though.

All so cute. I'd love to have a couple more EE's. I've been told on forum my Goldie is one, but had I never joined BYC would have continued thinking she was Americauna as that's what we were told. I'd love to have one that lays the copper eggs and one that lays the olive green eggs. Do you ever have a way of knowing ahead of time what color eggs you'll get from a certain chicken or is that a surprise too? There are no large chicken farms or hatcheries around here. Whatever I learn comes usually from BYC members S9 many questions here. Why do you separate your chicks in the brooder? Are you able to sex them so soon and separating by gender?

I separated them because the silkies were a lot older, didn't want them squishing the new little ones, they are all together now.

I am pretty sure these all will lay a colored egg..but, having said that..I waited all last spring for a gal to start laying that came from the prettiest Olive egg color..when she finally laid that egg, it was brown. Mom was a Wellie or sexlink..soo..

These eggs came from someone that does EE's, so not worried about getting a brown egg..but maybe one that is supposed to be pink. There were a couple in there that were a light pinkish brown. But oh my goodness, those eggs were pretty! Looking forward to some nice OE eggs. And then there were the blues!

Cake Pumpkin Cake Pop Ghosts!
I love this recipe and we make it every year at my work. I ate about 12 yesterday. Lol!

Pumpkin Cake
4 Large Eggs
1 2/3 cups Brown Sugar
1 cup Brown Butter
15 oz Pumpkin Purée
2 cups AP
2t Baking Powder
1t Salt
1t Baking Soda
2t Cinnamon
1/2 t Clove
1/2t Nutmeg

Cream Cheese Icing
3 cups Powdered Sugar
6 oz Cream Cheese
6T Butter

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Grease and flour one glass 9 x 13 inch pan.
In a mixing bowl, beat together the eggs, sugar, oil and pumpkin.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; add to wet ingredients and mix thoroughly.
Spread into prepared pan.
Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool.
For the frosting: beat together the cream cheese, butter and confectioner's sugar.
Once the cake is completely cool, break apart and put in a bowl (or mixer) stir in frosting until the crumbs hold together like Play-dough.
Scoop and roll into desired size balls. Refrigerate.
Roll out white fondant and cup into circles big enough to cover your cake balls. Shape them like ghosts using the cake balls as the bodies. Use melted chocolate to make eyes. Voila! You're done

Deviled Chicken Eyes
You need:
Eggs
Salt
Vinegar(optional)
Mustard
Mayo
Food coloring
A tortilla or olives, anything small and dark that's edible
Toothpick

Boil your eggs!
I use bantam eggs, I always have issues with large eggs. I cook the small eggs in the water for about 10 minutes. I put in a little vinegar and salt while they boil, it makes peeling easier and the salt helps eggs with cracks not leak. When the eggs are fine boiling, I run them under cold water.

The inside:
You will want to peel your eggs and cut them in half. Put the yolks in a separate bag. Once all the yolks are separate, add your mustard and mayo. This is totally personal preference! I put about 2 tablespoons each per 6 eggs or so. I also may sprinkle salt and pepper on it. When done, squish it all together!

The eyes:
Cut a small hole in the bag so you can squeeze the yolk mix into the whites. You can dye the yolks to make them more orange too. I even it so it looks like eyes and clean the white up some.

Details:
Put our tortilla or olive or whatever you choose for the pupil in the center. Get a toothpick, and with red food dye, trace veins in the white.

Lol so so so jealous still not sure if all my EE are laying. We started with a very soft blue or blue-green egg, gotten a few olivish ones and a couple light green with brown flecks, also gotten one or two houses ones and now we've been getting light pink.... Heres the dilemma I only have four EE lol. The pink ones seem much lighter than the other wyandotte eggs but now I'm starting to wonder. I really hope I have/get more blue egg layers I also really want a plum layer(langshan) now that Fernie has told me about them and I have seen photos of their eggs online.
