2015 New York Chickenstock

That's exactly why I think he prefaced that breed that way when I bought mine to CYA...This is how it was written...

"The Easter Egger Chicken, also referred to as the Americana, is a very unique breed of chicken with the following distinctions, beards underneath their beaks, muffs around their cheeks, and most exciting, they lay lots of medium sized pink, blue, & green tinted eggs." http://lancasterfancyfowl.com/fowl/easter-egger-americana/
As far as I know Easter Eggers are not shown, due to not having a standard. You mentioned "show quality" and that's why I responded. As I understand it only certain colors of the Ameraucana are shown.

They are beautiful don't get me wrong, but some folks have posted their birds only to find they've been snookered.

"True Ameraucanas", only lay blue eggs. Eggs of any other color are easter eggers and not true Ameraucanas. Also, if they spell it Americanas, they don't even know the correct spelling. There is no "i" in the name.
He has different birds he is selling as "Americauna's" this is what he writes about them...Lancaster Fancy Fowl is pleased to offer genuine purebred Ameraucana chickens. This breed is to be differentiated from the common Easter Egger (aka Americana). Unlike the Americana, the Ameraucana lays blue eggs consistently, not yellow, pink, or green ones. Also, to meet the breed’s APA standards, the breed must have a beard, muffs, and slate colored shanks. We recently switched our lines to produce only the following colors, Blue, Black, Splash, and Lavender.

Aren't there Aracauna too?

Am I on the snookered list...? Well, anyhow,I love my crazy crew.

? is anyone interested in Cameras watching your livestock/farm................from inside your home, or/and while in town shopping?

HI All,
Before I talk my hubby into coming to this event - I was wondering if anyone would be interested in seeing/getting info on surveillance cameras for your coop, yard, farm, etc. My husband does this for his business and you would be able to check your farm (barn, coop, driveway, front door, etc) right from inside your house (without Internet), and you would be able to do the same away from home if you have access to Internet.

Or maybe you have internet in your house, but it doesn't work in your barn - my husband can get you internet in your barn, no problem.

So, when I am at Runnings in Rome (about a 40 minute drive) - I can check via my iphone that all my farm animals are safe. Or if I wake up one morning and see some chickens gone - I can check the camera view from earlier - to see what or who took the chickens. It's quite amazing to be able to check on your family and pets/animals any time during the day or night.

So, if there is an interest for this - I will talk my husband into coming with his stuff to show everyone how it works. If not, then I rather keep him home so the kids and I can enjoy our day with fun chicken people. :)

thanks,

The kids are counting down the days until this fun day.

Margaret.
I have always wondered about this...

Yes there are - also known as Mapuche chickens from Chile. I'm not an expert, but there are several differences between the Araucana and the Ameraucana. I googled it, there is also a thread here somewhere on Araucana & other S. American fowl

Well, being an addict...i am sure I will have to have them all!

Good luck with them ! Crossing my fingers that the babies will also lay blue for you ... that is the thing with EE - their underlying genetics are very mixed - so you never know .....

I've been disappointed too many times .... and felt snookered enough :) If the babies lay blue eggs !!! you have to share the pics with us.

Doesn't someone here have pure Amers? Though I have them in the line and I get a blue egg, many are green or blue green. However I find EE's and Amers lay a large egg (2oz.) or smaller. I'd like to get them just a tad larger.

Of course it's the weight not the size that determines an eggs "size".
