2015 Pea Prices

Is there a reason that other people on this forum might be reluctant to discuss their current selling prices? I know that some breeders don't like to give away some of their 'secrets'.

I am going to assume it depends a lot on whether it is being approached as a business or as a totally out of control hobby( as is my case)

. I really do not have anyone close to me that would consider me competition, and at this point I do not ship live birds so my selling area is pretty localized and I do not feel like I need to play anything too close to the vest, so to speak. Everyone is different though, and since you can find a lot of prices on the big guys websites, you can kind of get an idea where they stand. I price mine lower than say Legg or Hopkins, because I do not have that history and reputation to back up my birds, like they have. Good homes are more important to me than profit, because the feather thing pays the bills. I priced my 5 yr white male at $200, because that is all my market will bear. One of the big breeders I looked at had yearling whites for either $200 or $250, around here you can find yearling whites at auctions for $50, lets face it yearling whites are not that impressive.

The benefit of your white is the parentage. I hope to find a feather market too, it's the 'another' project that gets in the way when we already have soo many things going on already.

I look at the 'big boys' prices and adjust down from there and keep in mind the local auction prices and try to land in between.

When I lived near Lincoln, they were cheap. I asked $45 for a yearling male and 50 for yearling hen.

HERe on the other hand, I have no trouble getting $75 for yearlings, very few peas around.

Nice! Wish you were closer, I would take him, that is a bargain price.

Just an update, as I am all about full disclosure. I still have the original interested party scheduled to come this afternoon, however until the bird actually leaves and the $ has changed hands, I still consider him available. I have had 3 other people call, ask me many questions and say they wanted him if still available. All 3 have then called back later to tell me $200 was way too much money so they would not be interested unless I could lower the price.

This is why I sell so few adults, 5 years of feed and care and people want to pay 50 bucks. $10 eggs and $25 chicks go like hot cakes, but ask more than that and good luck!

Good thing I have a really big barn!

Yeah!! Mr. White Peacock left for a new home.

Not a novice Pea person either he will be # 17. Gonna amend my ad a bit and try to unload one more white one before the breeding really gets started up here.

Good for you! One more and that will free up another pen.

What specifically are you looking for a price on? I just don't like listing 50-60 prices.

I see your point. In particular interest to me would be eggs, and chicks. I suppose that yearlings in general may be too varied of a list. What I am seeing a lot of is a wide swing in pricing across the country.
