Little freaked out tonight.

My IB hen isn't home and I'm worried she finished laying in the woods and has started setting. I'm so worried. I am going on a hunt in the morning. I just hope it's not too late for her!

She came home this morning for food and water and before I knew it she was gone again! Dang it! I walked part of the woods and will again a little later. Just hope she returns this afternoon and I will try again

Oh yeah, she's sitting somewhere. Good luck, I hope you can track her down.

I hope that you even get 1 peachick, minx! That hatch sounds too disappointing to walk away with none!

As I suspected, my hatch is going early again (it's day 25 an). Thankfully this time i was more prepared, and I had moved them down into lockdown on sunday evening. This morning just before I left for work I made the mistake of peeking through the incubator window... and lo! there was a little pip in one of them and wobbles all around. keeping my fingers crossed I'll have some babies to take pictures of when i get home tonight!

Must have missed this thread but Monday I started the incubator and put in 9 IB,4 MBS,7 OBS,4 BSSP,1 PURPLE,1 IB/WE,2 TAUPE and 14 ornamental pheasant eggs. Because of the cold weather our laying season is about 3 weeks behind last year so I'm not expecting but maybe 5 of the above to make it to hatch.

Oooo good luck on the eggs FBC! My birds started laying in the waaaayyy too cold times, but the eggs that I set from the start of April have started hatching today finally. I've got 2 chicks in the incubator (one pied, and I can't see the other one very well), 1 that is pipped and working on it, and 1 that is just rocking around driving me nuts!!!

So, with the help of a lot of wet towels and quick movements we dove in to rescue the two that had hatched without losing much humidity at all. I wasn't particularly worried about the pied but the little white eye baby had a pretty splayed leg that I didn't want to let get any worse. I've never had a bird of any kind with a splayed leg at hatching so I admit I'm sitting here with it in my hand holding the leg in the appropriate position for the moment. Has anyone had to forge a splint for a splayed leg before and if so what did you use and how did you do it?

Kedreeva, it shouldn't be too bad, all 6 of mine got splayed leg last fall since mom chicken for some stupid reason pushed them out of nest onto a slick surface that was nearby right at hatch! :(

I taped the legs together, I used an extremely thin strip of duck tape and tape them close together in normal position just like you would do a chicken chick. I checked in 3 days and some needed longer, some were ok.

I thought I had a picture but can't find it but do it closest to ankles is possible.

These are the peas that all had splayed.
