2018 Hatchalong

Also got a buff female on 5 eggs due next week. The parents are a buff goose and a brown male so I've 25% of getting male and female from both colours :)
Hoping to get more buff males!
Think i have a buff male gosling but I'm not sure yet!

Hey Serv! Great to see you!!

Glad to hear you still have geese and having a good year hatching! Always LOVE seeing your buff africans. Interesting mixing for buff color. I had a brown african (father)/buff toulouse (mother) gander mate with a brown/white cross african goose, and that pair hatched a buff african (granted, it had 1/4 toulouse in it). I was totally surprised!

I have my same group as usual, and only hatching a couple each year to keep my numbers the same, as my older geese pass away, one by one. I currently have two broodies sitting on a handful of dewlap eggs scheduled to hatch next week, and another 6 dewlap eggs in my bator on day 8-ish. Look forward to posting pics of my goslings when they hatch. :)

In the meantime, we are getting our first pair of pet pot-bellied pigs tomorrow. They are approx. 6 months old. Should be fun!

Wow that's a interesting mix indeed haha. Do you still have that gosling? I'm curious of what my gosling will turn out to look like! It looks like an african gosling but yet it doesn't. It has a longer beak and it has a brother of the same mix but brown so I'm curious of him too.

I've my same flock except over the winter a fox got a bunch of my flock but not my good breeders so I'm not as upset but it's still sad of course. My only embden was taken a month ago when she was sitting on her eggs so i have only africans left except one and the 2 goslings.

Pigs are great animals and have such a personality! Perfect for turning the ground up if you are growing vegetables. I myself got Norfolk black turkeys and i love them! I got 13 poults that i incubated and i got a variety of coloured chicks so obviously they aren't pure breed but i love mixed breeds so i don't mind :) Got 14 more in the incubator due on Friday.

Actually, I had sold the pair as yearlings and the lady who bought them sent me pics the following year of the gosling that hatched (she hatched two, and the other was brown).

Glad your buff breeders are ok! Hard to keep foxes away where you live. We are lucky to have only had one fox problem over the years, because it was not pretty. We also seem to have lowered the raccoon numbers over the years, because that has been less of a problem lately too. However, many of my birds are getting old, so I still lose a few each year to natural causes.

Our new pigs are cute and friendly, and do not seem stressed by move. The rest of our animals are freaked out. None of them have ever seen a pig before. Hope it does not take long for everyone to adjust.

Look forward to baby pics!

Best of luck with the shetland eggs!

One of my broody geese spooked off her nest by the arrival of the pigs, so sadly her eggs did not make it. My other goose is locked down tight and should hatch in the next day or so. She only has a few eggs, so I'll be excited for even just a solo baby. Only have another 2 eggs in my bator midway through cooking, so went ahead and set more eggs yesterday. Season is getting close to ending here, so this is probably my last chance at dewlap babies this year.

In brighter news, one of our ducks hatched 5 healthy babies yesterday. Mom is a cayuga/ancona mix and dad is ancona. Ducklings are a very colorful mix. It will be fun to watch them run around the farm.

The foxes are most active in ireland in June and July when the kits are growing fast so the adults keep hunting. Foxes are a nuisance but i adore them at the same time. They are beautiful creatures. Ireland is rabies and maines free so they look very majestic here. I just make sure my dogs show them who's boss on my land.
My flock had to get used to my German Shepard pup 4 months ago too. Get along fine now. Act the dog now so atleast they ain't scared anymore haha.

Goslings have internal pipped so she should have her young very soon.

My flock is small to what it used to be but I've 20 goslings this year so i will make sure it will be bigger this year. Most the geese in the pic are my goslings from 2015 except the 2 small ones in front. They are 10 months this May.
