2018 Newbie Chat!

View attachment 1523770 Hi!
This is my first time raising ducks. I have 3 duckling that are about 2 weeks old. (Pekins I’m pretty sure)
But I just got these 3 adorable little guys yesterday and was wondering what they might be? Maybe Muscovy?
Welcome!
I don't know anything about ducks but I would 100% have them if I were allowed!
My husband loves ducks and that has rubbed off on me as well!

Hey!
I made this thread as a place for all us first timers to get together and share our experience!
I saw there was one for 2017 and it kept going all the way until those chicks were grown up and laying!
This year will be my first year raising chicks (Or chickens at all). I got my coop built in fall before it got too cold and snowy here. My local feed store gets chicks late Feb to mid March so now I'm not so patiently waiting for that! :) I live in a city so I am only allowed "4" hens. I think I'm going to get 5 or 6 chicks though just in case.
My brooder is almost ready to go, just waiting on heating pad from Amazon for MHP.
hello my name is cory and i must say it's alot of fun you will enjoy everything about raising chickens

I posted another thread asking if people thought I should let her out of the crate.
She’s just so frustrated being in there and her wound has scabbed over.
The people that answered said to let her out right before bedtime as a trial to see how it goes.
So I let her out about 45 minutes ago.
At first she wouldn’t come out like she thought she couldn’t.
Emily was close by.
She walked out a ways on the deck.
She looked around and flapped her wings like saying “Ahhhh”!
They both stayed up there for a few minutes and after I rounded up the babies to go in the prefab I saw them eating grass happily together :love:hugs
She got up on the roost all by herself and seems quite happy.
I’m going to try to intercept her and get her off the roost each morning just to check her injury and spray it if needed.
I think her color will return with some exercise, foraging and being with her buddy.
Thank you, everyone, for your kind thoughts and prayers for her!! :bow
I’m so blessed to have a community of people who understands the love and concern someone can have for these beautiful creatures we call chickens.
Awwwwww wonderful news, so glad the gang are back together :clap Although a bit pale Agatha does look really well - well done to you for nursing her back to health - soon she will be as though it never happened :yesss:
