[No More Empty Nest]

So I decided against the incubation because I can't take the chance of having even one more boy. So I ended with these girls...

From what I was reading ducks don't need or hopefully don't need to be quarantined like chickens? I hope not.

Everyone got along immediately. The yard is alive with quacks and Lucy and Ricky are moving around and seem very happy, which makes me happy.

Lucy and Ricky, I love it! They are beautiful ducks. I certainly understand not wanting a male. One of my 5 is a cockerel and I'm not allowed any. I'm hoping so much that his crow will not bother the neighbors. He's a little bantam, so got my fingers crossed. I'm not even going to think about the possibility I'll have to rehome him until then.

And I thought I would never see the day they would all be this close. It's finally happening. 4.5 months to get to this point.

I should have said another male. Ricky(a boy)is loving all his girls.

The first 4 chickens I got were suppose to be girls. 2 out of 4 turned out to be boys. One is with the girls and the other one lives in the house. I couldn't part with either of them either.

Last night at about 5 pm the ducks and the rooster decided to have a contest. It went like this..ducks quacked, rooster crowed, ducks quacked louder, rooster crowed louder and it got louder and louder for about 1/2 hour.

What do you all use as bedding? I use sand in my coop and pea gravel in my run. I’m in the process of building a tractor coop and I’m worried that sand will be too heavy an option for it.

I use flax bedding. I will never use anything else. It's super absorbent, super soft, fire retardant(for those that use heat lamps. Easy to clean and 100% dust free.

For the run I use mulch,grass clippings and soon leaves.
