:loveCouldn’t help myself.
Got two babies from the feed store today. One Australorp, & One Buff Orpington. I’m being brave and put them in the garage to start off with. They’re currently huddled in the corner of the Brinsea cuddling for warmth. They had heat lights blaring on them so I think the drop in temp might have them a little chilled. I’m addicted to chickens.

I am new to having chickens as well. We started off with 5 buffs and 5 austrolorps, but one sadly died after a few days. Still unsure of why, so because my fiance has ocd and cant stand having an odd number, we went back and ended up getting three rhode island reds making a total of now a dozen chickens. They are so sweet and I find myself out talking to them 5 or six times a day lol. They are 4 and 5 weeks old now and are huge. I didnt realize just how fast they grow, but i love going out every morning and seeing their new feathers and colors. I have learned a lot already from this group and im sure i will continue to along the way. Snapchat-1675617060.jpg Snapchat-791349322.jpg 20180330_194426.jpg Snapchat-1155990850.jpg

Anyone who has a flock already know if I can mix my low on the pecking order leghorn with my 5 week old Golden laced wynedotts? Hoping to move them all into a separate coop/small run. The plan was to finish brooding them in the coop and mix them in at about 8 weeks but the leghorns has been forced outside the run by the others twice this week. Won’t eat around them very much the outcast. She is newer to them and new to me. She also has a bad hip from her last flock... after 6 weeks in the garage she went out to more time in isolation but the hip slowed her down when mixing... hopping having younger chicks around and her own coop will make her top hen again...

Last night my 7 week old cockerel escaped the broody breaker to mingle with the adult ladies in the rest of the coop.

We let the girls out like normal this morning and last in line was Wally. I was so shocked that he managed to escape. I looked him over head to toe and he doesn’t have any Injuries. The ladies just left him alone. They probably enjoyed having the male attention We put him back in with the little girls, but are feeling much better about introducing both groups together now.

Sorry for the overload of posts. Can’t you tell I love my chickens. Our girls/boy got to enjoy their temporary run outside today.

Wally is a showstopper in the sun. He’s starting to get in greenish hackle feathers. As posted earlier he’s also a trouble maker. The James Dean of our chicken flock. (This is him on the left)

Our newest additions are doing wonderfully. The buff woke me up all night, only to settle down once my hands went in the brooder. She loves human contact. The Australorp loves the buff, she’s been trying to sleep under her. All is well in my neck of the woods.

I almost got a couple more today but I was good. They were so tiny. My coop and enclosure is still not done, today we had hail and very high winds, so I still have ducks in my bathtub

Here is Sunny, I think he is a boy and he is just so sweet

We decided on names today for our Little’s. We named the Buff Orp Myrtle as she’s always chirping away (our 1st Myrtle is now Wally), she’s quite the chatty Kathy. We named the Black Australorp Mulberry. They got some boiled egg and fermented feed today.
