I’m a bit worried too... one of ours is starting a comb at 6 weeks today....

My question was minimums, not max. Like everyone else the town limits how many you can have, how many roosters etc. but the state says you must buy 6 chicks no less. Is that just here?

Here in texas i couldnt find a law that states minimum purchases but when we got our chicks from TSC they had a sign up saying 4 chick minimum purchase and 2 duck minimum.

I haven’t ever heard of a state min. Or a city min either.
I know feed stores, TSC, & Hatcheries have minimums, but that is for the safety of the chicks.

So I got home all ready to take pictures of all my chickens to get everyone's opinion on genders. But when I went in the coop someone had tracked blood everywhere. It wasn't hard to find who, my SLW Elsa had blood all over the side of her face. I couldn't find a wound then realized it was coming from her foot! She must have decided while her foot was bleeding was a great time to scratch her face

Anyway, bleeding was definitely coming from her townail. It looks like she broke the end off. I grabbed some corn starch and held pressure with a gauze for FOREVER. Still bleeding a tiny bit but much better. At this point I'm still outside and literally frozen so I gave up and went inside. Of course she scratches her face and digs around in the shaving the minute I let go of her.
Moral of story, I sent fiance for that powder for dogs nails, and by the time I went to apply that the bleeding was completely stopped. I put it on anyway c:

So during my time holding pressure I looked closely at all my chickens and have come to some conclusions. Kida's comb is not as pink in real life as in that picture. Some of their hackle feathers seem more pointy? I think? But to my untrained eye it's hard to tell. So I'll just wait for them to crow or lay xD

Took the heat plate away from the girls tonight. My friend who got some with me, said he took the heat off Saturday. Hopping they can go outside this weekend.

In the picture they are running from me and my phone. Seams I do t spend enough time with them!

So I got my Ameraucana chick on Wednesday, March 28th as a day old chick so she probably hatched on that day and things have been going strangely. She keeps on shaking, her mouth opening wide and like stretching her neck. Like probably looks like acting lethargic or it's going to die. But she is eating, drinking, and pooping normally. Also should I leave the heat lamp on at all times? I have two 2 weeks old chicks and two 1 week old chicks. I've been feeding my 4 chicks some chick starters and providing water. I also turn off the heat lamp from time to time to reduce power usage because don't want my power bill spiking! Thanks in advance!

Buy some Nutri-Drench, give the chick that’s acting lethargic one drop on its beak, should help. & yes heat needs to be on all the time. I’d look into the MHP method though as heat lamps can cause serious fires. Good luck
