My 3 week olds are getting big so fast! No pictures but today they where on top of the hot-plate on my way out the door! First time all 4 where up there at once! I guess the top needs to be on the brooder. As of now they have not been able to jump/fly the 30 +\- inch sides. Hoping to get them outside next week, we have power in the coop and the temps should be in the 50’s. The same as the garage where they are now! 2-5 more weeks of the hot plate out there and they should be all set!

She started this two days after I got them. Her name is Rain, as in she reigns the roost.

What a great idea! I just switched to a nipple waterer because they kept dumping the traditional one I had.

How old are the chicks learning the nipples? Mine have both and I keep showing them the VN but they keep using the base mount waterer like pictured.

I’ve heard they can learn from day one. But I taught mine at four weeks. You have to completely remove their dish waterer. All chickens will always go for the easier option for anything. Then you show the braver ones how to use it. Simple as that

Well I changed the puppy pads as you where typing. After that new food and dumped the nipple waterer and filled it with fresh. I picked up all 4 one at a time and showed them how to used it. No jar water dishes anymore. Hopefully in a day they will learn! All the adult hens I’ve had learned in less then a day from the others... the first batch had no other water dishes but had nipples already....
